Yip, basically to be successful you need to prove that you're employed back home and are not going to stay in Europe for longer than six months. It's important to be able to show that you've got enough money to support yourself while traveling - send them last three bank statements (read more about supporting docs on the desired country's website. There will be plenty of info!)
Apply to the embassy of the country of your FIRST destination or to the country of your LONGEST stay. To be successful you need to fill up a form correctly and obviously pay the right fee. It is straight forward! No stress. Europe is open to everyone with good intentions and genuine people. It'll be valid for 6 months so no need to book tickets up front, although if you do so, it will speed up a process and be a good evidence - but it's not a must!
And yes, insure yourself. It's in case of any unexpected bad things that could happen such as baggage loss, injury or worse.
Try moneysupermarket dot com website and search for insurance deals. I'm not sure if it works in Qatar but i'm sure there's similar website out there that would be useful for you. Medical bills are usually outrageous if you're not covered, so please insure yourself. Oh and flight companies may offer insurance when you book your flight, but it's usually a few times more expensive than getting it separate. You can also insure yourself annually and that will cover you for entire year. Read terms and conditions as it may not cover some countries but Europe is usually covered. And if you travel with someone, you can get a joint insurance which will save you even more Qatar Reals ;)
