I am encouraged by Qatari government actions and steps in the right direction. Many other countries in Middle East don't allow workers or any human rights organizations to even speak about these issues. Yes there are issues and challenges in Qatar much like anywhere in the world. But the very fact that you are allowed to speak openly about these issues without fear of retaliation speaks volumes about sincerity of Qatari government and their commitment to making Qatar as a model forward looking nation in the middle east. That is also why everyone here on this website or anywhere else can openly speak about worker issues or any other issues.
I do agree with Acadian that a big part of this problem is enormously corrupt systems in country of origin for these workers. If life was so rosy in the home countries, no one would want to come to Qatar and consequently no one would be faced with harsh working conditions. People come over here to seek better living so they can support themselves and their families better than they could in home countries. No one like to leave their loved ones and places where they grew up. Again, there is a lot more that could be done, is being done, and is needed. But one must recognize steps taken by Qatari government to resolve worker issues. Easiest thing in life is to point fingers at others. And the strange part is, most of the people who are pointing fingers at Qatar are living here and benefiting from good quality of life provided by Qatar. I think there is no bigger hypocrisy than cutting the same branch that you are sitting on.
