We have several friends in Qatar with us that are in a similar situation to yourself, They are here working full time (Sponsored) but there husbands are here on visit visa's. It depends on your Nationality, if like myself and my wife you're British than you automatically get a 1 month Tourist Visa upon entry, then at the end of the month you can pop into immigration next to the airport and get a 1 month extension on your visit Visa, at the end of the second month you have to take a trip out to Dubai or Bahrain call it 1 hour 15 minutes round trip you simply arrive in the airport and turn around and leave this has to be done in order to start your visa again ultimately just resets it for you. At this point you have another 1 month on your visa again which can be extended for a further month at the end of the month from the immigration desk next to the airport. Call it 100 Riyals in the immigration desk, 100 riyals upon every airport entry in Qatar and your flight to Bahrain could be 800 riyals return or less i have seen cheaper flights. So if your an expat wanting to spend time with your wife than the cost isn't such a burden and within this time you will surely be able to find some reasonable work. I would say drop me an email i could possibly speak to a few places that i have worked at, and still work part time teaching English in language centers it will keep you busy and they generally sort out your sponsor and visa process. You may not have to leave Qatar they may provide you with a business visa.
