How can I (canadian) sponsor my husband (honduran, canadian permanent resident) to to live/work in Qatar?

Hello Qatar ! I am a Canadian citizen who recently accepted a teaching position in Doha. My husband is a Honduran citizen, a Canadian Permanent Resident, and has a U.S. tourist visa. The school will take care of my visa but not my husbands’. How could he come to Doha? Are tourist or work visas difficult to get for Central Americans? What are the associated costs? I'd truly appreciate any advice or info. Take care! Meghant.

Thank you all for your prompt and helpful responses. It sounds like it will be difficult but I'm going to give it my best shot! I think from what I'm hearing that it will be best for me to first go to Qatar and start the process there rather then try to do it online. Thanks again, it's really nice to hear from you all!

There is no problem for a wife (teacher) to sponsor her husband but you have the added complication of your husband’s citizenship. Starting on May 1st you can no longer buy a visitor visa on arrival in Doha. That means he will have to have a visa before he leaves Canada and I’m not sure if that will have to come from the Qatar/Canadian or Qatar/Honduran embassy.

Sadly the school has no one with the necessary expertise to help you. When/if I get more information I will let you know. In the meantime you should try to find out which embassy can issue a visitor’s visa.

This is not an easy task. I have been working on my visa for 8 months now. There is considerable misinformation and because of the language barrier a lot of difficulty getting a straight answer. To make matters worse the visa requirements are changing May 1st 2010 and I haven’t been able to get those verified.

At this moment I am on a visitor’s visa, which lasts for 30 days renewable for an additional 30 days. After 60 days I have to fly to Bahrain or Abu Dhabi then get back on an airplane and come straight back so I can buy another 60 days.

for tourist visa he has to apply in the closest to Honduras qatari embassy.

for the Work visa he has to get a job first, and then his Company (sponsor) will issue a Work visa for him. there is no other way around.

theoretically, a wife can sponsor her husband and to issue for him a family visa, if she meets certain requirements. but these cases are still very rare, and to be honest, i dont think a teacher is eligible for this process. the best for him is to find a job here and to get a work visa along with the residence permit.
