Hello to All,

I have recently got a job and work permit, ticket etc and am waiting to go to Qatar in a few weeks. How ever, in the mean time, I am going to get a better job again in Qatar through a freind. I am confused. If I get the new job, can I inform the employer with whom I am planning to go and work with, to cancel the work permit and at the same time can I get the new work permit. Also I need to know whether if I happen to decline the current offer, will I have to pay some money to the previous employer as damages.

Your valuable advise is very much appreciated.

Thanks
Channa

Thanks for Qatarisun and Heloo. Your answers are very valuable. now I understand the scenario. But my current potential employer will pay for my air ticket and accommodation for two weeks etc. If I am to change my job after coming to Qatar and before getting my work permit stamped on to my passport, won't I be asked to pay at least those costs the current employer paid for me.

Please clarify a bit more.

Thanks

Channa

Rania is right. The visa that the company has issued for you is NOT a Residence permit yet. It is just an approval of your gender and nationality Once this approval (visa) for certain gender and certain nationality (with no particular name on it!) is received by Company, they can bring a particular person under this visa, and LATER, as cangadi said, after your successfully passed the medical exam and finger printing, they apply this visa to yourself and issue a Residence Permit for you. And only AFTER issuing a Residence Permit, they stamp it into your passport and the Company becomes your official sponsor. At that point you CAN NOT change your job (sponsor) without the “No Objections” letter from your current sponsor. Until that point you can change the job, refuse their offer, cancel your travel, or do whatever you want… So in your situation you simply say to your current potential employer that your plans have been changed, and you have to cancel the whole deal. They cannot do anything against you, as they are not your sponsor yet.

hey, I think the visa took so long because your employer was submitting your papers and legal documents for you to get accepted by the ministry of works or whatever it is called cos i know people started working here and they got rejected then sent back home. I guess that was it.

Thanks Cangadi. But once I got the initial offer, my employer applied for some visa and it took 3-4 weeks to get it approved. What was that visa. I thought that it was the work permit visa. I may be wrong since I am very new to this whole process. If you have any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks for your time again.

Regards,

Hi Channa,

You tell that you got a work visa and are yet to travel to Qatar which means that you just have a paper visa with which you can only travel into Qatar. For work visa to get stamped, it is a long process. After you arrive, you need to do the blood test and X - Ray. After you get this report, you go for finger printing. After that you will get a visa on your passport and get an Qatari ID Card. This process takes anything between 20 days to over a month. So if you have not travelled yet, you can straightaway go for any offer you get. But if your ID has come that your sponcer's NOC is required for any change.

Cheers !!!

Good answer Glenndale. I really appreciate it. You mean to say that even if I come to Qatar, can I change the employer. I was under the impression that I can't change my employer once I get the work permit visa stamped on to my passport. Is that correct? Actually at what point they stamp the work permit visa; at the time of entering the country or later. If all this happens before I come to Qatar, as I understand from your answer, there will not be any problem. Is that correct?

Again thank you for your time and I really appreciate it.

First of all, is the first job, officially accepted ie, have you sent letter of acceptance, or has anyone formally advised the company of your acceptance. Second, contact the company who may be giving you another offer, tell them you've got this decision on your hands and you'd prefer to accept their offer if it is indeed coming your way, probably best to speak to someone high in the company who can authorise a quick decision. If the offer comes thru before you need to travel, then all is fine still, you simply need only to get back to the original offer and subsequently decline, due to career choices on offer, if they are genuine, this may lead to a counter offer if they really need your services, and this could work in your favour. If the offer comes after you've had to travel, be up front talk to the boss, say this is not what you'd anticipated in taking the role, apologise but there is simply no way you are able to stay, and make an offer of staying a week or a fortnight to compensate them for their cost of sponsoring you to Qatar, make out that you're sincere.

Once they release you, they'll simply give you an exit visa, and send you back to your home port. You in the meantime may have accepted a new offer obviously if you're quitting the original, and then you are subsequently free to return if the original sponsor, haven't any advice of you returning, and they'd not paid any costs for your initial residency..
