New sponsorship law soon: NHRC

Kindly check the news item below in concern with proposed new sponsorship law. I have been waiting this for a long period of time. We just hope that it has amended to provide equal rights and protection of the law for all the workers here in Qatar. If this will pursue, this will surely improve our working condition into a more professional way. Is there anybody here has the knowledge of the full details of this? I hope the Qatar government will enact this legislation on the soonest possible time.

Doha • Yesterday, Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee said it expected the new sponsorship law to be issued soon.

Ali Semaikh Al Marri, Committee Secretary-General, said “We have submitted our recommendations and hope the law to be out shortly.”
The rights of workers and their relations with their employers is one of the main concerns of the rights panel, the official said. He said that a majority of complaints the committee receives is about labour disputes. It is important to have a system in place which ensures that such disputes are minimal since Qatar relies heavily on foreign workforce.
He told Al Sharq in an interview that the new legislation would replace two existing laws, namely, Law No 3 of 1963 which regulates the residency of foreigners in the country, and Law No 2 of 1984 which concerns sponsorship and exit permit.
