please help - exit visa advice
Hi,
I came out to work for a local school here. I need to leave the job due to a family emergency. I have a 3 month probation period, which I am still within.
I have handed in my notice, but the school will not accept it. During the probation period:
How much notice do they legally require? Nothing is stated in any written records.
Do i Still need an exit visa? A residence permit was automatically applied for by the school on entry, but this is still in process.
I am a UK national. The arrival visa is a work one (i now wish that I had come in on a travel one).
I desperately need to leave - anyone have some useful advice?
thanks
Thanks Monizag - I have contacted my embassy, and they have said that they do not have information on local labour law or immigration law in order to be able to help.
Can i ask a general question of anyone who is reading this - I do not have a residence permit. So 90 days after entry, am I able to leave without an exit permit?
I have been in an almost similar situation 5 years ago. at that time i already had my residence permit/visa. but my employer refused to issue me an exit permit for a vacation. i called my country's ministry of foreign affairs for help. i got a call back within a few hours from a rep. i was only asked if i had committed a crime and/or wanted by the police. since my answer was NO, they said not a problem. we should go to our respective embassy and explain the situation. seek help from your embassy. please do so. i wish you all the best. and please let us know of your outcome.
Thanks for the advice - here's an update on the situation - school is still not willing to give an exit permit, and let me leave. I don't have a residence permit - once I knew I wanted to leave, I thought it best not to go through with getting one. Therefore, can I leave without an exit permit, once my visa expires? I have checked my visa status online, and it now says that it's no longer valid to enter qatar. The entry before date was January 2011. If i can't get an exit permit, can i leave once the visa expires?
Labour department have not been helpful - they have stated that it may not be a contract, abut as the law here is geared towards the sponsers, they are not willing to intervene in any way. I'm chasing this up with the UK home offce and MP, to see weather that might help. The sponser has stated they would make my life very difficult if i decide to seek legal advice however. I'm willing to pay my way out, but am not getting any co-operation from the school.
I have to say, this exit permit system leaves you with very little freedom doesnt it?
Thanks for the advice so far - any other advice is much appreciated.
I think the Labour law states that during probation period you can resign and leave on the same day.
to pay all the expenses they incurred in getting you here. Pay it and then, go!
Further to this:
I have spoken to the labour department on this, and they have not been very helpful. Basically they have said 1 months notice required - even though I do not have a contract.
While I will do this if I have too, any advise that someone on here would know about would be apprecaited. Can anyone inform me of the process involved in getting a clearence ceritifcate from a valid body here, in order to leave?
thanks
