UK degree attestation - solicitor or notary required?

Hi folks,

My employer has just asked me to get my degree certificate attested.

Does anyone know if I must use a Public Notary to sign it or if a solicitor will suffice.
I could do with it being a solicitor as it's quicker!

I've asked my agent but they seem a bit confused by my query.

Cheers,

Rob

The primary function of a notary public is the certification or authentication of documents and signatures. In many circumstances a solicitor can perform this task but occasionally an overseas authority may insist that a document is signed by a notary public rather than a solicitor. If your document clearly states that it must be signed or witnessed by a notary public then you must follow this instruction. This is seen on some powers of attorneys that are provided from solicitors outside the UK. If your document needs a basic certification then a solicitor should be able to provide this service. Here is a sample picture of UK degree with solicitor's seal and signature for your reference https://www.topdiplomaservice.com/SAMPLES/Buy_other_certificate/2019/0402/UK-Degree-Legalisation.html

You can contact Authxperts.com. They are US based but process documents for US, UK, Australia, NZ and Canada. I tried my degree with them, they offered better rates than even UK based companies.

Their website is www.authxperts.com

Went through this process late last year. I went through this company http://www.argentum-llc.com/ who organised the whole process including signatures, stamps and return courier. Took around 10 days all in to get everything back.

There are some local agents who will send it off to the UK for you, as doing it yourself can be a major pain. Check the Gulf Times under Attestation in the classifieds.

If you do it yourself, you need to get it Notarized first by a licensed notary and not a solicitor. As far as I know, there are no UK licensed notaries in Qatar (let me know if you find one!) The notary will stamp a copy of your degree , and will need to see your original certificates though you don't have to be present. This copy then needs to be couriered to the Commonwealth Institute in Milton Keynes to be attested. They courier it back to a specified address and it then needs to go to the Qatar Embassy in London. Always better to do it when you're still in the UK or on holiday.

It's a quite ridiculous, but then that's the way it is. It's more expensive to use an agent, but well worth the extra cost!!

Good luck.

Just had to do this for my wife. If your degree was in the UK then you can get it signed by a solicitor. HOwever you may still need to send to http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/about-us/what-we-do/services-we-deliver/legal-services/Legalisation/ depends what exactly you need.
