The staff at immigration has to be convinced of the reasons for the delay. Its become even tougher for families as well to stay beyond six months and get an extension.

The period for which you can stay out of qatar is 6 months. If for any unforseen reason like medical complications you are unable to come back by the 6 month period ,your employer can pay an additional fee and subject to immigration acceptance you can get the visa extension upto a further 6 months.
