VISA with OLD Passport Number

Friends,

I am in deep trouble now. After waiting for more than six weeks, I received my visa. In between I did a mistake (may be)changed my already damaged passport (Lamnation damaged). I was told by Indian consulate and Passport office that I can travel since my new passport is having old passport refernce and so a visa taken with old passport number is not a problem. Now I am getting different opininons some people are saying I can travel some I cannot. I am in great dilema now. If this is to be corrected whethr the visa is to be cancelled and applied for fresh visa or amendment can be done. If new visa means I have to wait again for long time?/ Can anybody find what is the solution.

I have been working in Qatar last one year. Now iam in vacation, during my vacation period I changed my DATE OF BIRTH in passport and I got new passport. My visa is still valid. Is there any problem to come back to Qatar?

If her visa is still valid, no problem! she should come back before it expires as it's easier for you to renew her visa here that outside, more bureaucracy to face if you let it expire while she's not here.

Judge not! that you be not judged!

My wife went back to our country to see her children & to deliver her child there. She left on March 2007 and her visa is still valid up to december 2007. I heard that her visa will be cancelled after 6 months staying outside Qatar. Will her visa be cancelled on September 2007 after six months or she can enter before her visa expires on december 2007. Thanks

If your visa is ready all you need is your flight booking don't worry it won't take long! just when you get here take an extra care be calm and avoid getting into trouble! it's always better to be safe than sorry! Good luck!

Dear Friends

Thanks for the reply. I sought the help of my sponsor in Qatar and they agreed to cross check and reply be sunday. I do not know how long I have to wait. Some times these kind of things will happen. I am confident that if I travel from India nothing will happen. But from here it is unpredictable.

Excuse me! I didn't say the person was detained he was just held until they managed to contacted his Embassy! and I did mentioned that he can carry it both but doesn't necessary need to show both to avoid confusions!

Carry both with you. My husband recently got a new passport, but had to travel for business before he was able to get a new visa. So, he was told to carry both. You will need to show your most recent passport, since that is the only one valid. (so try just showing that, and see if it works). If they question you, then you can pull out the old passport, to show that the visa was issued with your old passport. Shouldn't be a problem since you have a passport and visa... Might take a few extra minutes, but don't worry. (fortunatly, this is not Saudi, so don't worry about getting detained, as someone else suggested)

There's no need to show the old passport, you can carry it but you cannot show them both. I heard a case someone carry two passport going to Saudi and he was held for questioning and the immigration contacted the Embassy for clarification. but nothing serious happened only the guy was held for 48 hours. You don't want the hassle do you?

There would be only one number of visa issued under your name so even if they issue you twice in a different number of passport it will be the same visa number. I hope that's clear to you now!

Rajesh,

Could you please share more information with me. Whether it was your first visit, and what was the advise from your employer in Qatar. If I travel from India it will not be a problem, presently I am in Middle east

Please carry your old passport alongwith the new passport when you are traveling.

Indian Immigration will check your old passport number in old passport and will stamp the new passport.

when you reach Qatar please show both the passport they will change the passport details to new passport.

Please carry both the passport

Chill man.

friends,

Your suggestions are based on the fact that it is an RP in passport and for reentry. In my case this is the first visit to Qatar and on my arrival they will be affixing visa in my passport. Will the affix the visa with old passport number to my new passport.

I just had my husband and son's passport renewed recently at the British Embassy and inquired if they will attach the old passport to the new passport because their visa is still valid. The Lady said I will only receive the new passport as the visa has to be reissued again. So I reckon you don't really have a problem! Use the new passport.

what I know is, if they issue you the Visa on the new passport. All you have to do is to go there and ask for transferring the Visa to the new one and should not be a problem. Would only cancel the old one and issue you a new one. I traveled with the old passport before which has the visa and I was showing them both. The new one for validity purpose and the old one for the visa validity purpose. There were no problems at all, maybe you should cut the strings of doubt by visitng the Immigration yourself or ask your company to do that to clear that matter to you.

Cheers
