I am new in Doha and thinking of buying a car under bank loan, but my work contract is only of one year (renewable). So what do you suggest, buy or rent a car?
Thanks in advance

It depends on your stay in Qatar. If it is a short stay, better you rent one. If the duration u intend to stay in Qatar is more than 3 years, better you go to buy one.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for your responses. Any idea how much renting a VW Golf would cost per month?

You can work out your options based on following monthly approx. rental info for a one year fixed period:-

Renting a Honda City 1.3L A/T cost QRs.1750/- p.m.

Honda Civic 1.8L A/T cost QRs.2,400/- p.m.

Suzuki SWIFT, 1.5L A/T cost QRs.1,850/- p.m.

Suzuki ALTO, 1.1L A/T cost QRs.1,450/- p.m.

Nissan Tiida, 1.6L A/T cost QRs.2,000/- p.m.

Mit. Lancer, 1.3L A/T cost QRs.1,750/- p.m.

Inclusive of comprehensive insurance, free replacements, periodic maintenance etc. If you need long term leasing send a mail to me, I can help.

We had the same question about this too couple of months ago..after keep on renting a car (Mitsubishi Lancer)which cost about QR2100 per month, my hb end up leased a car for 3 yrs for QR2700 per month with a buying option at the end of the contract. And with this price we have Dodge Charger 2008..much better car from the one that we rented earlier and we won't have a headache to sell it later.

I have heard that if you use the car on your own for at least 6 months you could take it with you without paying taxes or customs. The other thing is that some cars might be a lot cheaper than in your home country. Even though I don't know if it is right, I think about buying a car here and when I leave take it with me to sell it at home or just to use it there....

Given your current situation, i suggest you rent a car.

Unless you really want to stay here for more than a year.

If in case you do buy a car, it would be difficult to sell it especially if it still isn't fully paid.
