Banana Republic Sale

My initial thrill and innate sense of optimism were overwhelmed by seeing myself and others be scammed repeatedly by 'sales'. I've been in Doha 18 years now, and the only merchant who truly knew the meaning of 'sale' was Bhs, who has been closed for over a year due to a fire, which broke out quite ironically on the night of one of their sales..

I like BR, don't get me wrong, however, they must be marketing for people who are just coming into the shop randomly, and not for regular customers or for those who have half a brain and can do cost comparison via their website. Their line is limited and highly overpriced. I saw a pair of Martin trousers with the tuxedo looking waist which were offered for 600 some QR retail, on sale for 400 something (almost 500 QR). The retail price of the same trousers online is $98, around 350 QR, and currently on sale online for $39.99, about 150 QR. Even with shipping from the States, it's way cheaper to buy online. Maybe Villagio's rent is higher than the rent BR pays on NY's 5th Ave or on Michigan Ave in Chicago.......Dunno, but I won't be buying much from there anytime soon.

If you drive round the back of Landmark car park, by the Marks and Spencer entrance you will see that the NEW BHS is almost complete. All the outside signs are up and inside it looks as if it has been rebuilt and is now being fitted. I had a good snoop!

I also thought BR was way overpriced when I visited it.

I like BHS clothes too but did notice during the year last year that they had a great deal of rubbish so much so that I thought they were actually buying up surplus from somewhere, However they are nearly the same in price as BHS in Dubai.

I always buy the same brand of jeans from them and am sorry not to be able to get them here any more.
