most english medicines do contain alcohol. Islam does not stop one from using english medicine. thus muslims are permitted to consume alcohol in the form of medicine.

The subject should not be misinterpreted.

You must understand that alcohol consumption to the extent that it helps you is permitted. In other words alcohol abuse is not permitted. use it only as a medicine. not as a khamr.

yes wine is not always khamr by the way khamr means alcohols it`s the same meaning and by the way cigars with hush or weed can be considered as alcohols and prohibeted and any way if u want to drink just go and drink why u are trying to proof that u r a good person cause u and ur family go drinking and dancing in a club and we moslems are totally wrong cause we don`t want to do like u and ur family, is that gonna make u confortable by anyway ,ok next time while u drink ur jovaz bottle and dance with ur beutiful wife say it loud "hey people i m doing the right thing now and i m better than all muslims" i think u gonna be fine after that :)

Yeah of course I should use my brain. Some have eyes but don't see. Some have ears but don't hear.

Maybe wine is not always khamr then.

Some cigars are khamr.

Bbksiu, you can have a glass of red wine which will never make you unsconscious, not even dizzy and you can have a cigar which will knock you down.

Sun in big quantities also make people unsconscious (sunstroke) and water (try to drink more than 10 liters of it to test).

Allah for sure knows but you have to use your own brain, which Allah himself gave you.

bbksiu is having the same problem with alcohol being introduced in a Muslim country in the same manner that Israelis felt about pork being sold on their soil.

Nobody was forcing pork down anyones throat in Israel, yet it was still a senistive issue that offended many.

bbskiu is not alone in his opinion and it's sometimes not a bad idea to hear how and why people feel the way they do on various issues.

There has been alcohol (and bars) in Doha since before you were born so why the sudden urge to purge?

By anonymous• 8 Dec 2006 17:43

Allah knows best. As I know, anything causes unconsciosness & loss of brain functions is called khamr. There are levels of sins in Islam. There are major sins & minor sins.

Bbksiu, smoke a cigar of churchill size, iit will make you even more dizzy than a bottle of whisky. So it is khamr!

Muslims are imperfect people. Not all Muslims follow all of Islam.

When we smoke, it does not make us unconscious. Smoking causes health problems. Smoking is forbidden too.

By Terramax• 6 Dec 2006 22:28

Why do the muslims smoke, then? It is khamr as well.

As I know, it would be hard for first generation of Muslims to abandon khamr in one stage.

As I know, forbidding of khamr in Islam took three stages.

First, in Quraan it was mentioned that khamr has some advantages or "advantages", but its disadvatages are more than its advantages or "advantages".

The second step was forbidding khamr while praying.

The third step was forbidding khamr completelly.

And red wine is good for your health. As for Islam, the only thing I am aware of that in Koran it is advised against praying while being drunk. (Which assumes that one can drink and from what some deduct it is better not to drink at all, since they have to pray 5 times a day anytime). Btw QDC is owned by Qatar Airways.

Guys come on I have to have it, After a long work week of straight stress and responsibilities. Consumption of distilled spirits is good for my anti- depression medicine in my day off..

of course don't drink or drive under the influence of alcohol.

""Well ... i am afraid the one who own the bulk store is a muslim :-) ""

Although alcohol is distributed and consumed in most Muslim countries, I do understand bkk’s concern. The fact that most Muslims do not support the consumption of Alcohol and that other Muslims do own such distribution centres are not a laughing matter.

Just like when Catholics in Spain for example despise drugs and many small joints in the same country are also owned and run by Catholics.

Nationality or Religion is not the point here and I don’t know why many threads drift off in that direction.

Merely because Qatar used to be a very quite and serene place and you never used to hear about any drink or drug related incidents and many locals prefer to keep it this way.

I personally think that whoever wants to drink has the right to do so specially when the local laws allows it. Still I do respect local people’s opinion.

True Muslims can drink alcohol in Hereafter. As I know, in Islam we have a general term for any material used to make human mind unconscious. It is called khamr. It is forbidden to make yourself uncounscious.

I know that little of wine is good for health.

I think it is stated in Qur'an khamr has little benefits. However, it also mentioned that alcohol disadvantages are more than its goodness.

As for drinking alcohol in Qatar. It is not neccessary but it helps. When I see the uptight drivers with a severe case of anger. I think maybe less coffee and more alcohol would result in people with less anger and more patience.

The QDC or Qatar Distribution Centre is located off the Whole sale market road. If you turn South of Salwa on the Whosale Market road and follow it up to the Qatar Technical School turn right on the road in front of the school and follow the road or the traffic. You will get to a gate. If there is room to get in you will have to go first to the permit office with a letter from your sponsor, Your I.D. card, a filled in form and a 1000 QRs.

Hi ,

Thanks to all of you guys. Well, who knows the art of drinking shall enjoy it and control it to one's ability. Besides, 30-50 mL of alcohol per day is good for preventing cardia attack--well proven facts.

WELL, I AM GOING TO FIND OUT WHO OWNS THE STORE :))

Thanks again.

The Muslim who sells alcohol for non Muslims does a sinful act for selling alcohol. I should double check for that.

I think that, might be required too, all people who are in a "Muslim" land are encouraged to behave according to Islamic laws.

Place is a bit tough to find at first but it is near Al Jazeera Academy. They used to have a website but it disappeared. The number is 4687547 and 4699412, hours for the shop are sat - thurs 10:30 am to 7:30 pm and for the permit office they are sun - thurs 8 am to 7:30 and sat 10:30 am to 7:30. How much you can buy per month is dependent on your salary. You must have a letter from your sponsor to get permit. Very nice shop. Good selection.

I quite understand that as a muslim you are against alcohol consumption. For sure, alcohol abuse has wrecked many lives and is a growing problem around the world.

What I don't inderstand is why you are against non muslims drinking alcohol in a sensible moderate way. Is it because you believe that alcohol may be too much of a temptaion to muslims? Do tell me. I am very curious to know your reasons.

Cant help with the location but my husband is about to get his alcohol permit. If you do not know already you will need an application form, a specific letter from you employer allowing you to have alcohol, copy of RP and I think photos, and QR1000 deposit.

In Islam, it is not allowed to Muslims to drink alcohol. I beg you please don't support alcohol sale in Qatar. We are very sad because alcohol could be consumed in a Muslim country. :(( :((

Environment could shape your behavior too.
