A group of 5 aspiring filmmakers from Qatar will get the once in a lifetime opportunity to receive the fundamental skills from the best people in the film industry to execute a 10 minute short film from conception to finish. The DTFF Filmmaker Program will kick off at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival in New York from April 19th-April 28th. The select filmmakers will attend a series of Screenwriting workshops, Festival events, film screenings, one-on-one mentor sessions, and on-site industry field trips to delve into the movie making process.
After the Festival, the participants will apply their newly acquired screenwriting skills and work on a 10-page screenplay with the guidance of mentors. The filmmakers from Qatar will then take their screenplays and bring them to the first one-week workshop in Doha - the Pre-Production Workshop in June.
At the Pre-Production workshop, the filmmakers will learn from professional directors, directors of photography, and line producers to gain exposure to all aspects of Directing, from basic camera work, and lighting to working with a crew to manage a set successfully.
Now, the filmmakers will be ready to enter the director's domain in the filmmaking process- Production. Within a 35 day time frame, these filmmakers will shoot their short films in Doha, and then take their raw footage and dailies to the Post-Production workshop, which will take place in July. In this one week intensive, our filmmakers will be walked through working with a professional editor and sharpen their films, under the tutelage of a talented and professional directors, editors, and sound designers.
With their newly learned post-production skills, the filmmakers will create a rough cut of their films, which they will screen for a professional critics, screenwriters, and directors at the Rough Cuts Screening Workshop, which will take place in September. Each student will receive constructive feedback from the guest instructors, which they will then implement to make their cut better.
