If you are an HR Manager
Hi all, this topic is about getting idea for future/career. I want to ask all of you who have enough expeeince about education, ideas about future and who are brilliant in guiding others. Dear freinds, i did my Bachelors and now i am looking for masters. What i want to ask is that what will be good for me for my future and what plays a major role in setting career...? For example if you are an HR Manager and you need to hire a person for your company so what are the points you will prefer most and what comes first in HR managers mind when it comes to hire some1..? And what are the most important points in these 3..?
1) degree or experince
2) place of university
3) university itself
Now let me clear these 3 points, by point 1 i mean to say what is important a higher degree or a high experince? (who will u choose a fresh post graduate or a 5 yrs experinced under graduate)
By point 2, i mean do country where university is situated really matters alot? For example who will got priority in an interview, a person graduated from US/Australian university situated in Dubai or somewhere else or a person graduated from US/Australian university located in US or Australia?
3) Point 3 is obvios but still i want to ask that whether University (name) itself matter alot? For example a person graduated from Pakistani or Indian university or a person graduated from western university?
Freinds consider urselfs as HR Manager and plz gve me advice and guide me that what matters alot and what not. So i will try to decide my career path from your advices and guidance as i am planning to study masters and i habe to 2 options infront of me (whether university in Dubai or Europe/ America)...
majority on what were basing was the experience there we can see what you can contribute to the company after hiring you and your knowledge about the job offer, and just next to it is your degree.
if he/she has the right/adequate experience, with good communication skills, why not?
here in Qatar, 90% of the CV's I receive are either fakes or fabricated. So, we did on the spot tests to make sure...then we do interview.
Experience is and will be the most important selling point (varying depending on the size and prestige of the Company). Second will be the degree.
However, when you are being hired for a trainee or entry level position, where you took your degree is most important.
I would gather that most companies prefer HR Managers to be bilingual (not necessarily). Generally an organization would surely try to match the experience of a a HR professional with that of the requirement. For example, and oil & gas firm would love to have its new HR manager coming from a strong oil & gas experience. Then again, its never limited to that as a fresh prespective is always welcome in many organizations. Having said this, i will try to give you brief answers:
1) Experience would be given preference.
2) Country of education would not matter to a large extent. Although many firms prefer western education as your general outlook changes and you get more exposure to international HR practices and policies. In a way, some firms try their level best to match if not mirror the practices followed by western countries to achieve HR success.
3) The university would not also matter as much. However, it does sound very impressive if you graduated from Harvard or Oxford. Wouldnt it ?

From what I've seen in Qatar, most hiring decisions are based on degree + experience ... and ofcourse skin color..
The rest doesn't matter...
