Giving birth at Hamad

My wife is still hesitant on where to give birth, we are seriously considering Hamad, I understand that I will not be allowed to be there with her but I have a couple of important questions to which i couldn;t get straight answers.
1- Will my mother and amy mother in law be allowed in with here (meaning stand next to her while delvidering the baby)?
2- will I be allowed to be inside the Unit (meaning just outside the room where they give birth)?

THanks

Hi,

My Wife delivered a month ago in HAMAD, this was her second delivery:

Yes your Mom, Mon-In-Law can be very near to your wife when she will be delivering, and men are allowed to wait at Male Waiting Area that is also considerably near.

I was getting updates of every 5 mins. or so.

Trust me HAMAD is THE BEST here, we were also consulting at Al Ahli but later we prefered delivering at HAMAD and it was far beyond BEST than Al Ahli.

Nobody other than the Doctors and Nurses of Hamad will be allowed to be with your wife in the labor room. If you are afraid of getting your baby swapped it will be better for you to go to your country where the relaltives of your wife can stay with her during the delivery. Normally the mother and baby will be given a number tag to avoid any such swappings and I have not heard about such issues in Hamad Hospital.

Hey, ur mom or mom-in-law may be with her up to the point where she goes into the delivery room. You can sit just outside in the waiting area. The nurses will give you an update as and when there is. As soon as the baby is born (if all is ok) they will take the baby to the intermediate care, if not, they will take the baby to the NICU. You can go in immediately and see the baby (whether in the NICU or Intermediate care) Rest assured the baby cannot get swapped with another coz the nametag is put on as soon as the baby is cleaned and the same nurse that delivers the baby is the one who puts on the tag.

My wife has had 2 babies delivered at the Hamad hospital and let me tell you that the care has been amazing. Both my kids were in the NICU after birth and the care was very good. The doctors and nurses took give you constant updates on how the baby is progressing. No other hospital in Doha has better care than Hamad and they have all the expertise to handle any situation. Also, Hamad has probably the best NICU in the Middle East.

Don't stress out too much. Have faith in the hospital, doctors and nurses. Things can go wrong no matter where you are and no matter how much you pay! All will be well........

Thanks for your replies, i do not know how I feel about no one from the family being with my wife at the time of delivery, someone needs to reassure her. And how do I trust that our baby wouldn't be swaped by mistake? it has happend in other places.

Hi,

Yes, its true that you are not allowed to even see the mother or the baby at the delivery time. Once the delivery has been done they get the baby out first after dressing and then you can see your wife in the ward or even when she is been transfered to the ward.

Tell your wife that dont worry as everybody in the staff are very helpful and co-operative.

ALL THE BEST.

TAKE CARE

NO ONE IS ALLOWED DURING DELIVERY IN DELIVERY ROOM AND EVEN YOU MAY NOT SEEN YOUR WIFE AND BABY TILL THEY TRANSFERED TO WARD AFTER RECOVERY.

1- They can go in right after birth.

2- You'll be in the next hallway, not the next room.
