QBS Radio - Explicit Lyrics Anyone?

golu
By golu

I've noticed this before and its always bothered me but this morning by some weird coincidence of life I had to bear the worst of lyrics as soon as I turned on the radio...

I wonder if the people running QBS have ever heard of radio edits, I wish they'd care about this more because its the only clear English station I get while driving.

Freethinker - it doesn't belong in public places where people don't have a choice if they hear it or not. That's why radio edits of songs are created. Obviously QBS aren't aware of these.

F77 - No they don't but this kind of language doesn't belong on broadcast it belongs on your iPod or in your house. Doesn't explain why I like to zip around in my Mini with Stranglers etc. disturbing the peace but since my broadcast radius is only 5m or so...

OMG !! stir up troble??

Sorry Sir If I am not really aware of the nature of your forum but I'm surprised to see complains about explicit lyrics !

Singing and arts in general have nothing to do with ethics and morals. [mod note - or religion, which is why your comment was removed]

this is so common sense for me though I am coming from Arabian conservative background .

mysterious phenomena is that expats coming from cultures supposed to be more open and libertarian are showing conservative values ....and that is why I wrote my rejection !

If you are talking with a cultured Arabian guys in Lebanon or Egypt or Tunisia and said that you have a problem with The explicit lyrics they would

be surprised just like me because we think that us " Arabs" are the only remaining nation with such unrealistic values but good to know that we are not alone !!!

Thanks anyway....and I am sorry for disturbing you..

That's an AWESOME song mandi. Sounds like it could be diamond's theme tune.

I saw them live a couple of years ago. Highly recommended.

Just when I think all is lost - heard them play "Woke Up This Morning, Got Yourself a Gun" (theme from the Sopranos.) I'm bopping down Al Rayyan Street singing along thinking BAD thoughts.

Sometimes I can't quite believe what is polluting my ears (or my eyes but that is another topic called 'less is definitely not more'). On a good day I just ignore it, on a bad day I take out my handgun and shoot the speakers out (and anyone else around me who is annoying).

I've always found that quite effective.

Perhaps it's just the locals who care that can't understand it....or perhaps they're having a good chuckle too. I know for sure Diamond would giggle away to herself.

her favourite song was Candy Shop....as in 'Ill take you to the candy shop... Ill let you lick my lolipop' T and I used to have a good chuckle while she sung the words with total innocence.... if only she had realised what they actually meant... oh the innocence of childhood!

the other day listening to the one DJ, i was totally convinced she was having an orgasm, the way her voice got all raspy and breathless... and started to rise in a slightly 'strange' way... I have noticed she always talks like this - on the brink of something... um exciting... its comical...

My grandkids take great delight in asking if they can read out the company name on one particular cement lorry when they come to Turkey...........UFUK cement.

I always say no but then the local fishing boat owner comes down the lane selling his "ballack" (fish) at the top of his voice which sounds too much like something else. It creases the kids.

I was once in there with my kids and there was a film on and the langugae was disgusting. I did have a word with one of the managers (did not want to get them in trouble if they did not know it offensive). They turned it off and then started playing the loudest music ever with swear words ;-))))))))))

On a different note; who else is totally peeded off with the loud music everywhere? Or am I being a boring old fart?????

Wats the point in us cribbing and discussing about how pathetic the local radio & even more pathetic their DJs (RJs) are??? If only some1 frm QBS would be on this forum and be reading all this!!!

The only person who responds is some dumb DJ (RJ) who wants to defend their lame presentation!!! (i think some of u might kno who i'm talking bout)

I've totally tuned off frm QBS now!!! 96.5 is good wen clear, else i like the peace and quite!!!

Villaggio Mall management sent a memo round all the stores about a month ago warning about playing explicit lyrics. If you really get offended go and complain to the mall rather than the store and it's more likely some serious action will be taken, rather than the store manager just saying 'turn it off'.

It happened during the holy month of Ramadan when in "Hits from Germany" QBS played a song called "Ich bin so geil". which means "I am so horny". And I tell you, I know some Qataris who speak German. I wrote a letter to QBS offering them my translation service, but, of course, they never replied.

Johnny Cash in "a boy named sue" had the lyrics "Son of a B*tch" bleeped over on the live version. But on the tame version it said "Im the Mangy dog who named you Sue"

broadcasters always try to push the envelope a bit further! The implosion will be even more severe. Reminds me when the censor asked why Doha Players had cold tea in the decanter for a Chekhov play, Cherry orchard I think, wouldn't orange juice suffice? Some people think that whats new is good without any thought about the content. Eminem is an idiot who has no moral compass and the less I ever hear of him again the better I feel.

Bernie Lyons playing the Eminem/Dr. Dre song "Crack a Bottle" with lyrics along the lines of

"lick the cheese out from under my nuts"

LMFAO!

Amazing how they'll still black out thighs and shoulders in women's magazines, and still cut kissing/sex scenes from movies, but on QBS you can listen to some guy singing about some chick licking his balls...

It's funny, been happening for ages, in all the shops too. I never complain, just laugh and think about how children's innocence is being ruined by a bit of foul language.

I heard some hip hop song about busting up his girl with his super sperm. Not exactly rude words but not a nice image...... heard many things that would get cut in the UK for a day show just played straight here. Its great!

I also say a filipio in carrefore wearting a t-shirt that said UK punk on the front and when he walked by the back said f++k off W+nk++s... .strange very strange....

Not just QBS, I was in Shoe Mart yesterday and they were playing unedited Eminem.

It happens everywhere in Doha, maybe us expats are the only ones who pick up on it. I love having a family meal in a family restaurant here to the subtle background music outlining the duty of b**tches and hoes.

I've heard QBS playing songs with explicit lyrics while I was in Carrefour. Made me chuckle. Nothing like a bit of f-ing and blinding while you're weighing your fruit'n'veg!
