Low salary main cause of stress at work in MENA region, says study
Low salary is one of the main reasons of stress at the workplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, a recent survey by Bayt.com has revealed.
According to the survey, the three main stress factors of people working in the region are their financial situation (40%), work (19%) and personal issues (18%).
In the survey, titled ‘Stress in the MENA Workplace,’ 28.2% of respondents agreed that low salary was the main stress factor at work.
Lack of job security (12.3%), workplace environment (9.7%) and not having a work-life balance (9.1%) followed.
Around 40% felt that time-saving technologies — email, laptops and phones — are only adding to work stress. However, around 42.1% felt exactly the opposite.
Around 52% of respondents felt the workplace was more stressful now than a few years ago. A massive 69.1% people agreed they feel more pressure at work this year than last.
A majority of respondents felt overwhelmed at work (83%). More than a third (35%) spend too much time at work.
So what does work stress affect the most? Around 27.9% felt it affected their family relations. It was followed by friendships (21%), work performance (19.9%) and health (16.4%).
Interestingly, 18% people claimed that workplace was not stressful at all.
How true .. Another major cause of stress
Yes, discrimination at work pace is also a big issue in Gulf.
britexpat... You missed discrimination :(
a research had to be done to find this? im surprised ;)
As can be seen from the many posts on QL, stress can be caused by non payment of salaries, verbal abuse, being made to work longer hours without pay, refusal to allow holidays etc etc
Interestingly, 18% people claimed that workplace was not stressful at all. I am from among them .........
