WATCH: Ministry launches e-learning platform for people with autism
Qatar has been working toward the digital transformation of essential services to provide ease of access to the public.
As it moves toward smarter solutions, in recent months the country has established a number of online portals across different areas for the benefit of the public.
In another such initiative, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) yesterday announced the launch of an e-learning platform for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The platform is meant to support parents and caregivers of children and adults with autism.
A number of institutions including Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) Child Development and Paediatric Rehabilitation Centre, Qatar Foundation, Al Shafallah Centre for Persons with Disabilities and Qatar Autism Society, have collaborated on this project.
According to MoPH, the main idea behind the platform is to provide parents and caregivers support through a digital source of scientific information that covers educational, social and health-related topics.

Dr Noof Mohamed Al Siddiqi, health lead, National Autism Plan, MoPH, said, “We hope that, with all the support, we can build a network to provide all families in our community with publications regarding autism, videos and interactive peer-to-peer support. We can make individuals on the autism spectrum reach their aspired potential and much more.”
The e-platform features an array of resources comprising recorded videos by experts on autism.
It will also offer interactive educational sessions on various topics, which will be led by experts in the field.
This is even more important now, as parents need extra support and advice during the COVID-19 pandemic and considering changes in their children’s routine due to the precautionary measures in place, including physical distancing, the Ministry underlined.
The Ministry revealed that the first online session on the topic: ‘Behavioural changes among young people with special needs,’ will be held on Wednesday.
Dr Mohamed Al Taher, senior consultant psychiatrist and learning disability service lead, Mental Health Services, HMC, will run the session.
The dates and times of future sessions will be announced on the website in advance.
The Ministry encourages parents and caregivers of children and adults with ASD to visit the webpage here and make use of the available resources.
