Will I ever find a job in Qatar? Please help!

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a job in Qatar, but I'm having a tough time knowing where I should be looking.

Basically, I'm an English graduate from the UK with a flare for languages, and I have experience working freelance as a copyeditor, copywriter, translator, teacher and web designer. Given the chance of work, I'm sure I'd be very capable, but the problem is that I don't have much training.

Please can anybody recommend any companies that might respond positively to speculative CVs? Otherwise, are there any other employers/sectors in particular that I could try looking into?

Thanks very much in advance, everyone!

Looking forward to reading your responses!

My observation is that the start-up jobs are given to those expats who can be low-balled successfully. Usually that doesn't include Americans.

I am an American and can speak Arabic Fluently with a BA in Mass Communication, and looking for an entry level / Junior position in a reputable organization. It seems like all the startup jobs are saved for locals, even though they are only 15% of the population here. Any info would be appreciated People... Cheers

I agree with mandi.

Did you try some schools like primary schools?

errhm...I doubt it. Mandilulur is right.

But have you tried the english newspapers?

Err, it's spelled "flair." And almost all employers will require three years or more experience and references from previous employers.

Hello Bellagirl,

I guess you can look up the British Council, and see if there are job vacancies. You can also check the Qatar Foundation, perhaps there's something for you.

I hope this helps.

Good luck =]

An English graduate from UK? Why don't you try teaching in schools. Being a native English language speaker, I think you stand a good chance of landing a job if you catch the right rope.
