Gulf crisis nearing an end, says Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker

Ever since the illegal blockade was imposed on Qatar, the country has remained open to dialogue and reiterated its desire to end the crisis through negotiations repeatedly calling for a comprehensive solution.

Signs of some progress became apparent earlier this month as Qatar’s Armed Forces joined a Riyadh-hosted meeting of ground forces commanders from the GCC member-states.

Yesterday, Qatar took part in the 12th periodic meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Presidents of Legislative Councils (the Shura Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council and the National Assembly), reported Qatar Tribune.

Shura Council Speaker His Excellency Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud represented Qatar at the one-day meeting held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

After mutual discussions, a number of decisions were taken by the attendees of the meeting that offered recommendations on ‘Localization of Jobs and Investment in Human Resources of the GCC States’.

During the meeting, Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Mazrouq Ali Al Ghanim underlined that the presence of the heads of all legislative bodies of the GCC member states at the meeting comes as ‘a good sign and a ground for optimism for the people of the Gulf region that the ongoing Gulf crisis is nearing a conclusion,’ according to Gulf Times.

Stressing on the need for regional solidarity, peace and security, Al Ghanim said it is a significant achievement for GCC as all members were united in their stance over the rejection of Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

He further said that it was agreed between the heads of the six parliaments to raise this issue at the upcoming meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) council due to be held in Doha next week.

He said top lawmakers affirmed that the Golan Heights is an indivisible part of Syria, and US' recognition will affect peace in the region, reported The Peninsula.

Al Ghanim also mentioned that the GCC members in attendance also agreed to hold another meeting in Oman, the topic of which will be determined by the six GCC member states later.
