Saudi Arabia cracks down on "evil" circuses

"Saudi Arabia's religious police is cracking down on summer festivals that the government hopes will promote domestic tourism, in the latest battle between liberals and conservatives in the world's biggest oil exporter.

The Saudi government is trying to promote internal tourism but restrictions on singing, dancing and mixing of unrelated men and women by the powerful religious establishment has complicated the effort."

Do you think? LOL!

britexpat...tightrope??...one could say the Govt. of Qatar walks a tightrope between the liberals & the conservatives & in most aspects,it must be said, they've achieved a fairly good balance, hats off to them for it...Saudi is waaaaaay beyond a tightrope, maybe in a decade when they can actually wrest some power from & subdue, with the aim to finally abolish the much feared/much loathed "commission for the promotion of virtue & prevention of vice"...right now they have way too much power to call it a tightrope mate...

It's a tightrope that the government has to walk. Introduce change, whilst keeping the extremist elements at bay.

Change is occurring, albeit very slowly.
