CBQ - A Small Comparison

lovedoc
By lovedoc

Instead of improving services for their clients, CBQ is getting worse and worse:

A small comparison.

CBQ started charging QR. 300 for 6 months bank statement (came as a shock this morning)
Doha Bank charges only QR. 50 for 6 months

CBQ charges QR. 200 renewal fee for credit card
Doha Bank is Free… Nice isn’t it?

CBQ charges QR 25 every month if amount is below QR. 3000 in account
Doha Bank charges QR 10 every month if amount is below QR. 500 in account

Do you guys want to share your experience with CBQ?

Why should we keep an account with CBQ when better banks and better services are available?

oops..

i neither work for cbq nor defend its' new charges. So, that reason doesn't stand any merit. It was only a discussion which seemed to be counter-acting against your comments.

the freedom to choose an account is luckily still available for us and i don't think that cbq is such a great bank to merit such a long discussion. Personally speaking, i haven't been to these banks in ages other than use the atm machines. And i have friends who have accounts in both the banks. Moreover, I consider both banks to be more or less the same..

Haven't you heard of the swiss banks who have a long list of criteria to open an account with them.. I only meant a similar scenario that is being seen in cbq. "if you meet the minimum criteria, you are welcome". Not defending cbq. Given the choice, I would open elsewhere but account opening formalities are getting to be too tiresome that once you open an account, you just leave it at that and hope everything works fine.

For some reason I think you are trying to defend CBQ. Its not that I am against them or anything, but I feel for my brothers and sisters.

I have friends who have faced some problem and I had some issues with CBQ as well, hence decided to share on Qatar Living.

Can you please elaborate on the bank having ”sophisticated image and not interested in having accounts of persons with less salaries.”

I can smell some discrimination coming from CBQ’s side. Nothing personal, but fact is a fact. Why people with less salary can’t open account? Are they not human like them? Do they eat different food? If that’s what they are trying to portray.

The person that i talked to this morning was not very good in English, so whatever he spoke sounded rather impatient (i find this behaviour kind of rude, coming from a call centre agent.)

anyway, 300 qr is a bit too much for additional copy of 6 months statement, even if it is 4 pages or 40 pages. You could get these statements for free from online banking.

regarding credit cards, i remember having paid around 100 qr every year some time back but it has been free since past 2 years for me. They used to have some credit card offers (co-branding with Qatar Airways) and guess they have started to limit these offers and charge higher rates.

The minimum amount for maintaing minimum balance was raised from 2500 - 3000 qr just 2 months back.

So, most of these charges have just been introduced lately. More than justifying these charges, the bank could be trying to portray a new sophisticated image and not interested in having accounts of persons with less salaries.

Nominal charges are understandable but QR. 300 for 4 sheets of prints, I don't think so.

Q-Miles just started recently. I have the Credit card from last 10 years and I've been paying CBQ QR.200 every year (no Q-Miles).

Answer this: People who are earning QR. 4000 or less do you really expect them to keep QR. 3000 as a minimum average in the account? Do you know what sort of expenses one has to bear in Qatar these days? People have to support their families in Qatar or back home? Are these charges justified?

These small unjustified penalties do add to a big amount.

my comments:

called up CBQ since this came up as a surprise for me..

"CBQ started charging QR. 300 for 6 months bank statement (came as a shock this morning)

Doha Bank charges only QR. 50 for 6 months"

the 6 months bank statement for savings account is still FREE though if you request an additional statement or monthly statement, it will be charged.

"CBQ charges QR. 200 renewal fee for credit card

Doha Bank is Free… Nice isn’t it?"

credit card renewal charges used to depend on whether u want the qmiles. again, the charges vary across all the other cards. Mine is a free card since i opted for no qmiles and i have had to send in a request every year stating that i need no qmiles. Apparently, the credit card application form has a column indicating whether qmiles are needed or not. Doha Bank credit cards are indeed free if you pay off the amount within 30 days and opt out of credit shield protection.

"CBQ charges QR 25 every month if amount is below QR. 3000 in account

Doha Bank charges QR 10 every month if amount is below QR. 500 in account"

an average minimum balance is required and then they start penalising..

It is too much of a headache to change banks. However, i need to have a serious look at these new charges. If they start charging me for my credit card which is around 400 qr otherwise, i am going to have re-consider staying back in CBQ..

wait for 3 months and they will open up in Doha, as far, as they explain they are very far from the existing bank in Doha in terms of services so let see if this is true...(i mean their goal)

CBQ wants to make a big profit charging there customers a lot for small things. Its really sucks. I am CBQ account holder from the last ten years but feeling now to choose some other bank.

Normally banks starts new services to give benifits to there customers but the new charges of CBQ will kill you.

Hope I will get some good bank (Pray)

CBQ is the worst bank I have ever seen. Problems for everyone. I heard many complaints from many people about the bad service .
