Foreign Magazine Subscriptions

I am wanting to subscribe to a couple of foreign magazines that will be delivered via local postal service. I have been told by a couple of people that magazines are "intercepted" and therefore the deliveries are very erratic.

As the costs involved are rather substantial - 2 are weekly issues - I would be loathe to laying out quite a large sum only to have the magazines never arrive. Can anybody share their experiences with regard to having magazines delivered? What would happen to "non-English language" magazines?

Regards

oh!if its available here then it shudnt be a problem getting it posted here too. what my dad usually does is , he gets his meds from india handdelivered to him by someone coming here to doha. either my mom gets a full supply while she is travelling or anyone else travelling like work colleague.you could give that a try. yup medicines here are pretty expensive, and if you need them regularly it can be quite a pinch.

Mine is a doctor prescibed medicine that I need regularly (nothing serious - life just gets uncomfortable without it). It's available here but expensive - from home I can order 6 months supply at a time.

Would really appreciate anyone's experiences here.

oh this is something i would like to know too.

the herbal stuff i need is not availbale here though the brand is sold at the pharmacies. so what do i di if i want to buy something exclusive of that brand.

i think there is a customs clearance where they may check the product, which is why i havent ordered anything yet.

Does anyone know whether its OK to order medicines by post? Is there a customs clearance required?

I don't intend hijacking this thread but some years ago, one of the stores (possibly Blue Saloon when it was on Al-Saad Street) had UK mail order catalogues that included clothing. All the ladies underwear was inked out, as also were evening dresses with low backs or fronts. The censor had obviously decided that these were unsuitable for the local market and had "modified" the dresses with the customary black ink . It was amusing where the dresses were black as it was impossible to determine where the dresses stopped and the ink began.

from what i know, there cud be a possibility of censorship.having said that i have picked up magazines from the shopping marts here without any censorship.

the indian news papers that arive everyday here used to have censorship ealier, i havent seen any black paint on their pages covering up pictures lately.

what sort of magazine are u planning on subscribing.

I've never had magazines not arrive - I get some magazines from Europe that are sealed in transparent plastic and they have never been opened in a year.

I think it just depends on how dodgy it looks!
