against cyclists. Do they count as a race? Now I know that with global warming and the ecological issues that threaten to wipe out our planet we should applaud cyclists and follow their example. The problem I have with cylists here is that they ride around without any lights on, no reflective clothing and no helmets. Despite this, they expect you to see them in an unlit street. Last night, I came very close to killing one. This is not the first time this has happened to me. Please cyclists, wise up because you will not look good splattered all over the front of my huge American automobile.

SuperXpot: "I just hope that the Chinese who built the scyscrapers at the Corniche have actually put cement instead of ash in the concrete mix!"

I rather hope they put cement instead of bodies in the concrete! (Or was that the Vietnamese...)

Amnesia: "I've got a video of bike riders in China which I filmed during my last visit. It's amazing!"

On my visit to Mainland China what amazed me most was the number of people on each bicycle! Often it was dad peddling, mum on the saddle with a kid in her arms another kid on the crossbar with countless shopping cartons hanging off everyone! Now that WAS amazing!

:D

Cornellian, well I lived in Germany for years and I dont like the cyclists, why, well they have everything they need as you well pointed out but that doesnt stop them breaking the law all the time, ignoring red lights, going on pedestrian path ways insteed of there own, breaking numerous laws and to be honest nobody does anything about it most of the time. The cyclist is protected in Germany by so many laws but they still go around breaking the ones they dont have.

A cyclist can do just about anything but by god dont ever hit one with your car, even if its there fault, you dont have a chance.

I loved the cyclists in Germany, the lanes for them are so organised and everyone's bicycling (is that even a word?). I ended up renting one and went all around town...so much fun!

Unfortunately over here, it's another case...

You are right. They are very poor and I don't wish them any harm. In fact, I want them to stay alive which is why I am going on about them. I don't know how many get knocked down because the drivers can't see them but I imagine it is a lot.

Richard they are really poor and can not afford cars or reflective clothing =(..

On a brighter note maybe when the weather gets better we can leave the cars in the car park and everyone can take their bicycles to work and errands=)

the new traffic regulations only refer to the motorists and pedestrians but none for cyclists...they should then make an addendum ..

I've got a video of bike riders in China which I filmed during my last visit.

It's amazing! There are like accidents everywhere, people bang into a car and just continue on like it's an everday thing (which it is :P)

The menace is more in Industrial area where there are no light

I believe you've seen lots of dodgy cowboy-style construction by the Chinese in Africa!

There are quite a few jokes here in the industrial area about their ''quality'' too.

I just hope that the Chinese who built the scyscrapers at the Corniche have actually put cement instead of ash in the concrete mix!

Actually there was a new road built by the Germans around Gorongosa Park in Mozambique. Obviously it was perfect (as opposed to crappy Chinese built roads) but the Germans were astounded when the 'cats eyes' from the middle of the road went missing.

The locals (on bicycles) couldn't understand why the road had been built with bicycle reflectors down the middle and had prised them out and reappropriated them to their bicycles.

Now - that is a practical and logical reappropriation of resources.

Mozambicans may be poor but they certainly are not daft.

I agree with you 100% with that, but I don't think any of these damned cyclists reads QL!
