Laptop Question
heres my question: can i format my vista laptop, with XP? is it possible to get all the drivers from the net?
i've always preferred desktop pc's since my work involves heavy graphics. i also often play games and laptops jus dont give that much performance.
however, now it seems i jus have to buy one. am planning to do so durin these eid hols. almost all laptops come with vista preloaded, and i dont want vista on my system (for obvious reasons!).. so i need to know if i can buy one with vista preloaded and then format it with my windowsXP without any problems? can i get all the required drivers?
am aimin for a core 2 with atleast 2Ghz, 2GB RAM and atleast 256 graphics card. am guessin 7-7.5k wud b enuf for the above specs? i prefer DELL.
also, any recommended places?, apart from the regular hypermarkets and jarir?
thankkoooo in advance :)
that is a very very good deal. thats on top of my list now and shall check it out first.
only thing that doesnt match my specs is "Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS up to 831 MB total graphics memory with 64 MB dedicated"
but still i guess i cant get a better value for money!

thanks for the info.
yes, i do plan to stay away from qatar for a year. so i gues int'l warranty is a must.
regarding the drivers, lemme jus list them here: motherboard, graphics card, modem, wi-fi and ethernet.
i've seen hosts of other drivers on laptops (like the one for the tracking pad). are they really unnecessary?
any recommendations on the brands? i need one with good power performance, not jus for entertainment.

since you format the hdd drive. "windows XP pro" is the best of the windows XP brand for speed and stability.
Jarir is expensive, dont know about Virgin.
my experience has been "a laptop you use untill it breaks". :/ if you plan on being in qatar for the next two to three years I wouldnt go for the international waranty.
Burnout.
Beware! :)
Almost all laptop manufacturers provide drivers online. You should have no problem downloading drivers for XP. In fact I did exactly that on a Fujitsu Siemens. Vista was so damn slow and unpredictable, I swapped it to XP. The performance improvement is definitely justifiable. You can go back to XP a couple of years later, hoping it has something to go for it by that time.
Buy your laptop from Virgin Megastore as they provide International Warranty. It may be useful if you travel outside Qatar. Other stores don't provide International Warranty.
:)
yes you can.
check & download all of the XP drivers from the manufacturer site before formating. this especially true for the ethernet or modem driver (whichever you use to connect to the net to update). drivers for the main board (chip) is another one you should have as most are onboard now.
