My driver's licence experience

Hello everyone

I wanted to share this with you and take this off my chest.

Today I waked up early about 5:15 AM, and waked up a friend of mine who was going to drive me to the traffic department cause it is far away from where I live (or at least I think so).

It started as a beautiful morning and he came to pick me up, and we went to the traffic department.

I went inside told the nice lady sitting in the info desk that I want to get a drivers licence in exchange of mine, she asked me "where are you from " and I said "Egypt, but I also got an American driver's licence" so she said "ok you can go and exchange it"

so far everthing was going fine, I was so close to get my sweet drivers licence that is going to save me from karwa, and set me free so I can enjoy my stay here in qatar, BUT all this fancy dreams vapourized or should I say VA-POO-Rised, when an other lady told my that my licence has expired.

So what , I haven't been to the united states since 2005, and it has just expired march 2007 and I got my egyptian license which is still valid, I guess you all know that my poor egyptian license is not going to help me :(.

I did many tries but gained nothing, now I will have to make the test and wait for a while till I make this test & who knows what could happen.

I'm so sad how can I survive without a car here.I need it so much and I need it nooooooooooooooooooooooow.

Forgive me for this long message.

Thank you all

Bye

Rule of law prevails.

I'm doing just great. It’s been a while since we last talked, maybe since Ramadan. Enjoying life?

I understand and can imagine the disappointment. But at least I want Pharaoh to make sure based on my experience that the law is like that.

Wish him and all new comers good like.

How are you dear?

Pharaoh might be frustrated because he thought he'd get by, instantly, with the valid Egyptian license backed up with the US driver's license.

It’s a hassle to start the test all over! But he’ll get there, no doubt.

That is the law every where. You cannot exchange an expired license. When I was in Oman, replace my Qatari license very easily, but at the same time, there was an Omani guy who wanted to exchange his Qatari license (seems he was living in Doha), but it was expired, so they refused to do the exchange. Law is law

Ma3lesh! It's a very frustrating experience. When I first arrived here, I faced exactly the same issue. Eventually, you can do the road test only without having to go through the full test including cones, zig zag and all the jazz.

You'll be ok. I did it!!! me?! the test should be on a stick!!! I only drove automatic gear all my life, but I did it! so you surely can too..:))

Salam

a lot of people that i know have been complaining endlessly about the license. they make you wait for hours, or send you home because they are just not in the mood. sad. i wish karwa was helpful as well. i see all these people stranded on the side of the roads under the hot sun - waiting .. waiting .. waiting ..

i really hope you get your license soon. good luck.
