hubby's always mad when someone's tailing him blinding him with flashing headlights and overtakes him without giving a sign but to this day he's gotten used to it so he always give way. he said that if its a way to make them happy then so be it. it'll only put you into trouble if you argue.
when i came here at my first day and headed to my work place in alkhor, we took the highroad ! in one of the first roundabouts on this road i saw one Nissan Patrol rushing to the roundabout and DANG ... he was doing a two wheeler in the middle of the roundabout ! i was like OMG!!!(couldnt belive it)
Thou i lived in egypt a long time and saw ALOT to what is related to driving but i never saw some1 doing a two wheeler in the middle of the road !!!
In general u cant say ALL r bador ALL cant drive, its just that some of the locals can be wreckless! And im totally against that we should not talk about something like this...in fact we should cause its like dengerous for me and for u and for them selfs !
There's a difference between Qatari people and wreckless Qatari drivers. Hating Qataris is just stupid and ignorant. Hating wreckless drivers is normal, mind u those wreckless drivers aren't only qataris, and everyone who drives would agree.
Flashing the headlights in my mirror and riding my rear bumper when I'm boxed in on all sides is incredibly rude and childish, and of course, dangerous. Usually, they want to pass just to get blocked in by the car in front of me. On average, it happens, at least, 3 or 4 times a day. What can this behaviour possibly accomplish? Are these people trying to get killed or to kill me?
I've been driving for over 30 years. I'm licensed to drive vehicles with everything from 2 to 30 wheels. I'm also a pilot. I'm not the best, but I'm not a bad driver. I've driven in many countries around the world. I've had to pass many, many tests, both academic and practical to get these permits to drive.
On average, in my opinion, drivers here are terrible. Compared to some other places, there are not all that many vehicles on the roads here.
Are there any real tests for driving here? My license here was the easiest one to get, ever. All I had to do was show my license from Yemen, (not known for it's strict driving rules either), and do the lamest eye test, and voila, I'm legal to drive here. I never did have any test to drive in Yemen. Trust is nice but safety is a good thing too.
The roundabouts are a nightmare. One way to fix these is to put speed bumps, big ones, about 10 meters from all the entrances. It will slow vehicles down when they enter. This will create natural gaps so people can get into the roundabout from all sides. Cheap, easy and effective. It'll never happen, but it's a thought.
It's not just the drivers but the roads as well. They're terrible. Nothing more needs to be said there. At least, it looks like the roads are being repaired.
Doha is a scary place to drive. My advice is to relax a bit, folks. Take it easy. What's the big rush? Think of all the other people on the road. I don't know about you but I would rather not end my drive in an ambulance.
You should join Aisha's volunteer group, so you can find out yourself how generous they are! The Emir support all the needs of those old people from different countries who are stuck here in Qatar. In my country, when they say Government hospital the situation is terrible. here the government give the patient a real healthy meal, and they are well look after by their nurses.
Generous in another way that, when Government staff arrives here they give you a generous interest free loan. In Saudi they will not trust you easily to have a loan, even you're British or American you still need a guarantor as they tend to leave the country without informing them.
You cannot generalized people!!!
The only people I had problem here are not Qatari's they may drive fast but when they walk they are slow but still over takes me! he! he! he!
You go to any country you will find such guys. So why only blame Qataris.
"If your number one goal is to make sure that everyone likes and approves of you, then you risk sacrificing your uniqueness and, therefore, your excellence."
and drive in Lebanon, you will know and see that Qatar, Kuwait, and any other Arab country is better than driving in lebanon, at least they have driving signs on the streets and strict policemen, and the government of qatar is making wonderful life to its citizens, and moreover is opening plenty and many vacancies to foreigners come and work and live in good respectful and descent life.
If one qatari or 10 qataris drive like crazy, so not all people are same.
why you should NOT hate Qatari's? Because they accepted you to work here! in Qatar!
I was outside today, when i wanted to park my car in a crowded parking area, a gentlemen guide me to park my car and he is a Qatari. Thank you, Mr. gentlemen!
But while on the way home, a black hummer was driving rushly behind me w/ his hazard light on, well..i gave him way, i have to understand maybe he is in an emergency situation?
See! sometimes we meet Rotten Apple and sometimes we meet Sweet Apple. Which means DONT generalize any nation...
I do understand the frustration that one could go through once faced with a recless driver on the road. However, I do not understand why everyone here is complaining about Qataris or People in Qatar who drive reclessly. This is not something that only exists in Qatar! It is everywhere in the world and i believe that the case with Qatar is much less severe than it is in other regions in this globe. Believe me I know, I've been to many places around this world.
Something called training has been unheard off. I hate all bad drivers and people with road rage because they put my life in danger. Most drivers haven't learned how to negotiate round-abouts or stay on green light to prevent junction-blocks. Whatever be their nationality, every Johny with a 100K plus car on the road has a birth right to be nasty on the road (And I salute the others, thousands of decent and educated drivers, which include Qataris.)
Tht might b ok ... but ppl are constantly picking on locals and saying how horrible they are ... That attitude sucks.. And belive me when it comes to driving the list is endless all people no matter where they r from tend to go nuts... One phone call and no one has clue where they are on the road... Im just sick of everyone badmouthing locals all the time... Its just not right ...
R7 we aren't asking them to stop wearing thobes or practicing Islam, we are asking them to stop being wreckless drivers, which benefits them far more than it does us since they are constantly killing themselves as well.

Maybe it would make a difference if we name them? Maybe those nationalities would be given driving tests instead of just passing over the liscense, then we would all be safer driving.
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
There are plenty of people tht don't drive right... I Don't think its right to blame the locals for that ... Has anyone ever considered that we being exapts are on there homeland ... All u have to do is put up with what u dont like or leave... Expecting people to change for u is just wrong !!! Ur gonna have bad apples no matter where u live ...
Is for sure believe me or not i have lived an age here in the Gulf UAE Saudi Bahrain And Qatar.Kuwaiti forget them they are lost now. Just wana say Qatari are really respectful and caring and honest. I work with such a person that i have to meet the vvips and vip and they are over whelmed by welcoming me or my other mates. i don wana name them but with whom i worked seen or meet they really were great even they are retired from their posts still they will treat u as before they use to. Five Fingers Are Never Equal.
I do really respect Qatar and Qataris, as Qatar respect its citizens, treat them as human beings, and give them all oppertunities possible, even if it dont really suite them, yet Qatar want to give Qataris all possible chances, which is good, and also respect its expats and thats why we are all here..
Really its good to see that a country respect, educate, train and assists its citizens like this .. if some r spoiled, that never means that all are bad, and its clear how qatar grow during less than 10 years, and still growing .. meaning there is intelligent people behind this growth (even direct or indirect)
Why not get into details? Why not point out who sucks at driving?? Why pretend the people here aren't crazed maniacs behind the wheel of a car? Is being politically correct going to stop the bad driving? NO! You know who can stop the bad driving? The Qataris!

Try living in Kuwait and see what it's like. The Qataris are heavenly by comparison.
In over 10 years of living in Doha I've never been insulted. Not once.
And the driving habits, and insensitivity towards other drivers, of so many nationalities here leave a lot to be desired. Be fair. Next time you're out driving take a look around you. Look at the cars, see who's driving them and how they're driving them.
Maybe the Qataris are more noticeable because they're bolder when they do it (home ground advantage) but it's not just them.
"Just the one's that drive landcruisers...or hummers...or mercedes S500's. "
Have them all :-) I guess I'm hated then. lol
PLEASE Listen to yourselves for the God’s sake! The word hate is really hurtful guys. You can’t hate us all for a stupid situation you faced with one or some.. This is just unfair. I will never say I hate people of X nationality!
well yesterday a Qatari crossed me he was not wearing a seat belt and the police didnot say anything to him when i crossed the police i was looking at him he got his pen and note book writing down my number when i saw him doing this i reversed my car to him and asked him are u done he said yes thumbs up i said good carry on u )(^&%*^RI(^%

What's the heading? I can see where it was heading but why was it heading in that direction in the first place?
Now that's called editorial judgment.
Guys, I just updated the topic heading to be more reflective of the discussion and post.
Play nice....

I don't know why you hate qataris? Qataris treat us with respect ,I have never seen a qatari harm a stranger.
I know that they drive too fast and it's not because they don't respect us.
Most of you know what you have here ,you will have any where else.
I only hate some of you. Just the one's that drive landcruisers...or hummers...or mercedes S500's.
