It must be a compulsory holiday

either I learnt the rules thoroughly so I can demand it from my employer

or I learnt them to ensure that I pay my employees correctly...

or maybe its a bit of both :-)

You seem to have studied the laws very carefully. It is 150% for working for normal hours on holidays like friday and other national holidays. In the event of working for more than 8 hours on national holidays, for the extra hours you are compensated at a rate of 185% or 187.5%. Not so which of the two figures is right. Anyways they are close and wont make a lot of difference.

three days for eid... If you are made to work, you should be compensated at 187.5% of your hourly basic pay (25% extra for working over time and then 50% extra for it being a national holiday)

This is to the best of my knowledge, if anyone knows better, please correct me as I am interested to know...

Qatar announced that it would no longer be a holiday on national day a year ago.

Sure people in the west work on holidays..... but they are compensated either on an another day or the salary on a holiday is doubled....

Don't be so over the top. Of course people work through the holidays around the world...

In the West many people work through bank holidays. How else do you think people take flights, beam out TV or make sure the thousands of other modern conveniences work?

And who do you think serves you your Big Mac and make your Latte (Grande, Skinny, Shot of Hazelnut thank you very much)?

The Qatar Cleaning Company don't even give their labourers friday off and they are not getting any vacation now according to one of the cleaners here in the office. Poor things

the labour law to make you work on independance day - thats why its called a public holiday

the labour law bods fine companies who make people work on public hlidays and they fine them a lot. The public holidays are the 18th - 23rd of December - its illegal to work these days.

call the labour deaprtment and report them - that will stop the company making you work

All the holidays mentioned in the newspapers are for government and semi-government sectors.

Private companies are "private" and can pretty much do what they want and get away with it !!!

And if this is the case.. is there any government section who can restrict the company by not following the official holiday??

Thanks again,,

Hi, good morning to all!!

Can anybody tell me the official holidays for private companies??

And what if the company refuse to give the complete holidays for the employee, say they want to resume to work after 3 days only.. How can they justify this??

Thanks,,

Mention your company's name in it and about how its working on the National Day and then start packing your bags immediately...

Jokes apart, its against the law, this is what is in the Labour Law

The worker shall be entitled to annually, leave with full wage as follows:

1.Three working days for Eid EI-Fitr

2.Three working days for Eid Al-Adha

3.One working day for the Independence day

4.Three working days to be specified by the employer

They can make you work though, but they have to pay you overtime, almost twice your basic... depending on your grade

Your stay in the jail depends upon your relations with the jailer. My advice would be to have good relations with the warden and get released on parole
