QTEL yesterday announced the launch of its new mobile broadband service, which it said would help a large number of the country’s residents enhance their communication connectivity.
Giving the details of the new service at a specially convened meet, executive director (business solutions) of Qtel, Khalid Abdullah al-Mansouri said with the introduction of the latest service, high speed Internet connectivity would be provided to a substantial number of Qatar’s mobile customers.
The Qtel official said the service provided facility for the customers to access and use the Internet at high speeds on their personal computer anywhere within Doha, Wakrah, Rayyan, Mesaieed, Al Khor and Ras Laffan.
The new service, al-Mansouri said, provides laptops with access to the Internet at speeds similar to the speed of home ADSL broadband.
The broadband service sits alongside Qtel’s existing WiFi and ADSL broadband services and provides true broadband flexibility, the official said.
With the launch of the mobile broadband service, all a customer needs to do is to purchase a USB modem and a data only SIM card from Qtel or any of the Starlink counters and then subscribe to one of three price plans, namely Lite, Plus and Max.
The USB modem can be used with both laptop and desktop computers and connects the computer through wireless to Qtel’s 3.5G broadband network rather than to a wire or fixed telephone socket. The new facility combines the benefit of high speed Internet connectivity with â€کanytime, anywhere’ flexibility, al-Mansouri said.
The new service is ideal for people who work on the move, those in areas that are not covered by fixed Internet lines, or who simply want the flexibility to be able to access and use the Internet anytime and anywhere within their home or at work.
As part of the new broadband service, Qtel is offering customers a choice of three different Mobile Broadband price plans with different levels of data usage.
The price ranges from as little as QR100 per month for a 1GB data allowance to QR300 for a 5GB data allowance.
The USB modem is available at a one-off price of QR799 although customers who already have their own PC Data card or USB modem are free to use their own device with the new Qtel broadband SIM card.
Executive director of Qtel Group Communications Adel al-Mutawa, and productivity marketing manager (business solutions) Fatima Sultan R al-Kuwari were also present.
A news item on the Qtel website said the launch of the new mobile broadband service marks another major milestone in Qtel’s journey towards its vision of a â€کBroadband Qatar’ where simple and affordable high speed Internet connectivity is available to everyone in Qatar.
The delivery of broadband service has the ability to transform lives by connecting people both to their community and to the wider world at large, it said. It underpins the country’s development as a true knowledge capital, the report added.
the starlink E-180 sold via Qtel has one major drawback - i am unable to do voice communications via yahoo messenger or skype - the party at other end doesn't get all the bits fast enough that they can understand the conversation.
Starlink is trying to resolve, but they keep talking about replacing the modem, just not sure this alone will fix the signal delay issues that is preventing voice communication - data delay is okay since the screen takes a few seconds longer to update, voice is real time communications so unless the sound bits are sent over fast enough the other party cannot understand the conversation...
ending up paying Qtel 400 monthly plus having to make calls at cyber cafe....really not fun to do
