Is this racist ?
A cartoon in the Australian depicting starving Indians chopping up and eating solar panels sent to the developing nation in an attempt to curb carbon emissions has been condemned as “unequivocally racist”.
Drawn by the veteran cartoonist Bill Leak, Monday’s cartoon was his response to the climate deal signed in Paris at the weekend. India is the world’s fourth-largest greenhouse emitter.
Amanda Wise, an associate professor of sociology at Macquarie University, said in her view the cartoon was shocking and would be unacceptable in the UK, the US or Canada.
“This cartoon is unequivocally racist and draws on very base stereotypes of third world, underdeveloped people who don’t know what to do with technology,” Wise told Guardian Australia.
So, the questions arise. Is it racist ?
Should cartoonists be allowed carte blanche to make a statement ?
They can send a probe to mars and have big nuclear arsenal but yet still people are living in poverty... Same goes for a number of countries in the region, they pronote these silly schems that will make some people rich with the contracts yet they can not do too much for the masses living below the poverty line!
i agree with thahseent, firstly fulfil the basic requirment than try to do other
I would tend to agree with thahseent on this... At the end of the day, we see things as we want to see them
he could have tried with Mint chutney, would have tasted better...
Why so serious, there are lot of comical parodies on newspapers these days covering all races and making fun of them. Just bcoz it came from an Australian papers, you immediately call it racist. How about all the racially iconic comic on newspapers printed in other countries. Don't have to be serious, lets all move on. I was on a QA flight to nepal once and one the nepali worker thought the towelette was food and started to eat it. I told him, it is used to wipe his hand and face and showed him how to use it....is that being racist!?!?!
Somebody { who made it } is joking ......... badly .............
