Should a User's Post History be Public?

I noticed that in QL, anyone can see any user's history of posts! Isn't there an option to hide them from public?

I mean, I know it's a public community here but still... How many of you guys prefer having this private?

So you do! :D

nawras, yes I do.

I really think that it's a good idea to set QL so that the privacy of a post is selectable by the user, he would be able to choose any of these:

Just me (red): Nobody else can see this, this is useful to put self-reminders on a topic.

Me & my friends (orange): This makes the "friends" feature in QL useful.

All QL Members (blue): This would only be shown to logged-in users.

Public (normal): This would be available to whoever visits the site, and would be indexed by Google.

But these need to be very obvious, so I suggested the colors to use as a background color, so that when a friend sees a post as orange, they wouldn't reply in public.

When a friend clicks on the "reply" link in the orange post, it will be visible to the same people your post can see.

p.s. I can easily switch sides :P

Fine!! Jeez you guys r mean :S lol. I guess you do have a point coz this is a Public Online Community. Ahh what the heck, HISTORY LIVES!! Hey Bleu, what you say in your profile page is right, apparently you DO like to argue lol! I wish you would've switched sides though :D. Well that's that I guess... Have a Good Weekend y'all!

If it's a choice between a public and private history, then I would chose a public one.

Not offended by the few posts, but your assumptions seems a bit stupid (sorry). I'm only offended by the way you're afraid to show what you have written.

Your private messages cannot be read by anybody else, but your public posts are just that "PUBLIC"... There's absolutely no way to hide them!!! QL provides a very easy way to list your posts, they're not making it possible, they're only making it easier.

I'm responsible for every word I write, so is anybody else.

If I had the option to hide what I write, I wouldn't want to. If it's something I don't want people to see, I just don't write it.

P.S.: Bleu would serve as a good example why users should be given this freedom. The fact that I have little posts seemed to offend him/her for some reason (at least that's what I sensed, plz correct me if I'm wrong).

Some of your points may be valid. But again, it's a preference thing. I mean, I mean in the end, this is a online "Community". And every community must have its secrets if the said member chooses so. I'm not saying Hide All History And Ruin Everybody's Fun!! I'm only suggesting that if some of you had the option to NOT show your history, wouldn't you take it?

just sign off from QL... its a public site with public discussion...

easy come easy go...

No harm's done to history by making it something someone would want to read.

Better hide all your question, comments in a scrap book and lock it.

LOL,

you've participated in only one Question, one Restaurant review, and three forum topics, and you're scared of people finding what you wrote????

Even if QL cancelled it, people can still use Google to find everything.

If you feel your comment should be deleted, maybe you shouldn't have said it in the first place!

Agree with rizks...I also think that it serves as a reminder to think before posting.

why would you want your posts to be hidden?

this is public forum, opinions matter...

delete all your posts so no one would see them. ;)

Life's a bitch and then you die! ;)

why hide, when your posts will be used later on as reference or information (as what QL is known for - INFORMATION).. not unless you would be posting nonsense..
