snap of a finger...
im not usually a morning person,or maybe im a tad slower today, but this incident left me wondering if im a PET animal or a trained animal from the circus.
this morning,i was very busy giving away instructions to at least half a dozen co-workers when a woman came in.i greeted her "good morning" and asked her to sit down. since my mornings are all about details,i had to explain every detail at least twice, in excruciating manner after detail, after detail and so on.
what made my blood boil was this woman whom i asked to sit shouted "HEY,HEY!!!"complete with the arm waive and like an owner calling her, lazy pet dog SNAPS her FINGERS at me and proceeded by saying "why are you soo lazy?"
huh???was she referring to me?
i assisted her and just smiled but deep down inside im hurting.it kills me that snapping of fingers maybe is the NORM here or just their way of calling someones attention, but to call me LAZY???
im confused and irrrationaly angry, was it because she called me lazy or because she snapped her fingers at me?
feel free to comfort me-with a FINGER SNAP!
PM me
My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.
the smile softens the gesture.i have another thread and if ur a mom,,i need your advice.
perhaps the reason why nobody has to do oiiiiiiiii, finger snapping etc is because they have the words and the language to attract attention.
We are talking about people here who do not talk the same language as people who are serving them.
Not saying it is right.
I always just smile, make a ridiculous gesture with my hands that says, 'menu' and then I write on my palm 'bill' when I want the bill.
In the future, will that become unaceptable?
My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.
if i had to explain the work that entails to what i do for a gazillion times then i do it.GOD is in the details.DUH.................
i likey-likey your attitude, its true, that the customer is always right and no need to snap the finger, with matching eyyy and arm waive,i bet no one has ever done that in BURBERRY's boutique or SALAM.
i had to explain every detail at least twice, in excruciating manner after detail, after detail and so on.
Why twice

The correct thing to do would be, try to gain eye contact, and say excuse me could you please... etc.
Not saying that finger snapping is right. However, if you were trying to attract somebodys attention in say, I don't know say Greenland, ( I doubt there are many Inuits here). How would you do it?
Would it be a wave?
Finger snap?
Oiiiiiiiiii?
Hello?
A smile?
My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.
if im not mistaken,,,well some are great posers, claim to be locals but duh....
shoeaddict,
was it a local who did that to you? here in our office that happens most of the time, i pity my colleague for being called like that often, sometimes this someone claps her hand to call his attention and commands him to do certain things here in the office which is very irritating if not degrading.
=Dura Lex Sed Lex=
Mr. Right ....
ur friendsheep request is under process, will call u soon....
Mr. Right, will you please snap your way out of here... you seem to be lost,... This is definitely not a dating site... :/
In some parts of the world people try to attract your attention by hissing at you "tsssst, tsssst." Annoying as well. Nothing wrong with an "Excuse me," or "Afwan."
Mandi
Yea, i don't know how things are done here either, but boy where i come form snapping your fingers and telling someone they're lazy will get you thrown out of the store.
yesssss.........a new client...hopefully a friend too...thanks.
thank you.........and if ever youre in need of our services.
you know, maybe the snapping of the fingers is the NORM,and i will accept it,but to call me LAZY?duh.......
i think im way past DOORMAT and SHABBY treatment.
one of my co workers repeatedly snaps his fingers at me, and i told him on a thursday after a long day at work and after i reached my peak in terms of stress and frustration (and hunger) and after he snapped his finger at me yet again, i toid him snap them one more time and i will break them off and feed them to you, he was stunned...and never thought that i was offensive...i later apologized and sometimes he still snaps them and realizes what he does and gives me a forget about it smile lol......my point is, in his case its normal, its like those who find it normal to burp in public, but her adding the words why are you so lazy after the snap, means her intentions are not normal, they were meant as a way to degrade you...
you are human like the rest of us and we all have gripes about others.
I am laughing about something that happened the other day. Hope this is not a hijack by the way.
My teaching support worker is lovely, she is very soft and gentle and we get on well.
However, one of the kids in my class has a cold and god love them they could not blow their nose. I was at the board teaching and I looked across and there is this lovely, lovely person trying to show this kid how to 'snort' up and then spit in the sink.
I nearly gipped. She in her mind was helping this child but in my mind that was so disgusting.
I swept over, took this kid away and taught them how to blow their nose. Different culture, different way.
Was I right or was she?
My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.
i know,im way past DOORMAT and SHABBY treatment.ive proven my worth but still...
This is why i quit hospitality. No one treats me this way.
maybe i was just having a bad day errrr....all days...lol
we all have our ways of attracting attention.
In England we used to shout, 'Waiter'. How awful is that?
I think the finger snapping thing is annoying but they think it is ok.
Just like some think it is ok to spit, clear their throat, gripe about allsorts.
We are all different. We are from all over the world, we all have different ways.
Why can we not just live and let live?
My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.
