Opening a can of worms.........

I have been reading so many good things on this forum about Islam and have come to realize that there are many similiar aspects with respect to Christianity including believing in the same God. And both religions in there tenets advocate kindness in that we should treat others how we ourselves would like to be treated.
If this is the case - why is there so much angst between to Christians and Muslims?
Now before anyone gets all upset - I ask on a general front - this is not aimed at specific individuals.
And if anyone is offended - please accept my apologies as this is not my intent.
No it doesn't. It is that superior attitude, regardless of subject, that gets my dander up. To be honest I found the "non-believer" comment condescending and patronizing. Comments like that do not help the effort at all.
" ...muslim is the best friend to all the non believers in the world, including the christians."
It doesn't really sit well, does it, when it comes to your thread about us all trying to be uncontroversial. lol
well i think thats all the difference it makes..
i once read somewhere, its not what you say, but the :way: you say it..
but sometimes, it so happens that our intention is not to offend others, but its just coz of our way of doing things,
Well I believe Princess H, when referring to non-believers, means those who do not believe in aspects of Islam that pertain to issues other than God because surely she must know that Christians, Jews and Muslims all believe in the same one and only God.
the last paragraph was ...
I think comments like that is "why is there so much angst between to Christians and Muslims? " on QL.
Nice thread! But I can't help but rise to Princess H yet again calling anyone who isn't a follower of Islam a 'non-believer'. Which implies that Islam is the only Faith to follow.
Yikes
I always avoid religious topic it's just not worth arguing and trying to convice others whatever we believe ourselves. For me, we're all human being and have equal rights to be in this planet.
It's great 2 b loved!
A sincere and honest muslim is the best friend to all the non believers in the world, including the christians. Although those christians may not realize this!
Anything which is wrong comes from ourselves and anything we do right comes from Allah!
Really KH, I did not know that part of history.... The Red Pope of Qatar Living
Great answers everyone. Thanks! I sometimes think that people try to further their own agenda in the name of religion. I think that they deliberately promote the differences to encite people by insinuating that the differences deliberately strike at the heart of one's beliefs. These people/governments are not interested in the similiarities that would unite because that would not be in the best interest of their agendas. So I think that we as individuals should take the time to learn as much as we can about cultures and religions that are different from our own instead of blindly following the rhetoric fed to us.
I know that what I have learned about Islam since moving to Qatar has warmed my heart and I am angry at how it is often portrayed - not just for Muslims but for all people whose opinions of cultural differences are shaded by what is often presented to us. Let's face it - if we don't take steps as indivduals to understand and accept each other's difference (and teach our children to do the same) what hope is there for co-existing peacefully.
and mainly have nothing to do with religion. If you think of it as a political party, the party leader and media will try to convince everyone that they are the best and other parties are very bad, corrupt, .... you name it.
Among true believers (mainly individuals) there is no much difference that justifies hatred, fight, wars, killings.
Just to give an example. When Islam started, the best allies and shelter providers were the Christians. Islam as a nation started the war with the Roman and Persian empires. Christians of the area were fighting together with Muslims the Roman empire which claimed to represent Christianity at that time.

well this is a great question.... well i think this is all the role of media and ignorance put together. Human nature is always to take the easy way out! We listen to one side and we find it just a little bit convencing that we dont even spend a second to think if its really true or not! Islam has been positioned as a religion of terror, where as islam really is the religion of peace and it is not only a religion but also a way of life. Muslims believe that islam is a continutity of christianity (the bible) which in respect is a continutiy of Judaisim (Tourah, first testement).
So i beleive that media and ignorace are to blame and i encourage everyone to walk the extra mile and do some reasearch on their own to find out about islam, christianity and any other religion they are interested in.
i try to avoid posting on religion thread as i know it will get ugly in the end. some people forced other people to follow what they believe and thats wrong.
but others can remain calm with peaceful head. bravo to these people.
Everybody is right and Everybody is wrong, its depend where you stand
I dont think you will find much angst between christians and muslims.
Its only when both try to insult the other's beliefs that problems occur. Otherwise you dont find much of that
Good question. Some like to insist that everyone who has a different opinion or belief from themselves is wrong and go all out to try to prove it. This can result in heated discussions and people getting offended. I do feel this is a minority view. Most people I know are peaceful whether they practise religion or not. The minority tends to be very long-winded and vocal so it can come across as a majority view.
