QR 200,000 a month at HMC

Al Raya newspaper published a cartoon comparing how many Qataris it takes to earn what 2 expats earn. The title was "Medical Director at HMC earns QR 200,000", a month I would guess.

Could that be true?

You can only sell Qataris elephants if they thought of opening a clowns circus or for the zoo, countrymen (and women) here aren't dumb. Yes, there is lots of wasted money and time during transition (and money can only buy technology not knowledge), but the country is grooming its citizens for the(near) future, through Qatarization and reform initiatives.

Note: I'm serious about the zoo elephant, the poor one here needs company and its health is not all that well.

They are getting paid from their national resource....as long as the Oil/Gas prices are above Qr 50 or something....

so nobody has any right to question that....except Qataris themselves!

Thanks Translator. You're right, they certainly seem confused. You either have to learn and train to do the jobs yourselves (and be paid accordingly), or pay more to bring someone in to do it for you. That's life.

tallg, the cartoon's message is, the Medical Director of HMC is earning so much, that it equals the pay of so many Qataris.

This is a clear indication of a confused culture. They would rather go to Canada to get their health needs taken care of, but they would not want to pay the same Canadian executive here the same amount of what he was paid in Canada.

I bet that the Medical Director will regret coming here. A physician in the west is not just a fixed salary physician. They have a refferal base to maintain and a reputation to build. They even have terretorial of coverage agreements. If you leave, your area will be covered by someone else.

If our dear Qatari hosts are getting too concerned about what the HMC Medical director is getting paid, then they should take a sleeping pill before they see what will the world class physicians of Sidra be offered to come here.

perhaps its meant like a joke, you know the one like how many Qataris does it take to put an elephant in the fridge? Ans: NONE, they have to hire experts from USA on Fridge dynamics and design, pay him 3 times the salary, give him a villa and provide his transport and child schooling fees. Then they will hire a Elephant expert from UK, with equal or more benefits to confirm if the elephant can actually be put in the fridge, then they will hire cheap labour from the Asian countries to build the fridge and not pay them for months on end. After all is said and done they will gather some Qataris to pose for a picture in the news paper with the Elephant and Fridge.

So what's the cartoon trying to say; that expats earn more than Qataris, that Qataris earn more than expats, or that the HMC Medical Director earns too much/too little?

HMC is subsidied by the government.. all salaries come from the government... QR200th a month is peanut..

In practical economics sense, its the patient who pays the doctors salary, not the hospital. All Hospital administrative & operational cost are build up in the cost of treatments the patient has to pay at the end of the day. Its no wonder charges at HMC are sky high, and this relates how much they are paying their staff.
