How to stop theft in the office.

So recently I seem to be struggling with theft inside the office since our Office shifted to this new office building with surveillance cameras installed only they that cameras don’t seem to be working at all. and don't seem to gonna be working anytime soon.

Now Important Files/documents are suddenly going missing from my office and is starting to piss the hell out of me.

What do you think would be a sure as hell way to catch whoever's stealing my papers (or at least get them to stop?) I've been thinking of putting a note in my drawer that says, "Please don't take anything from my office without my permission” but I'm not hopeful that it would work....

Keep a Playboy magazine in your drawer and see who finds it first .. :P

Very simple, leave a fake memo in your desk proposing something unusal, like a 20% general salary increase for all. Once the rumour gets out you should be able to trace it back to the theif.

Lock your cabin while out and assign somebody to look after your stuff during your absence.

ok then u must lock ure office each time u leave the office, recently a secretary was working in our office used to steal important documents regarding deals and so on and handover it to the concurrent company and gets paid for that and fortunately we had a small cam in the drawer so we caught her .

emy007: I do have keys. Unusually I lock my drawer at the end of the work day when I I’m leaving home. However this is happening during office hours. Just left some insurance documents (Copies), on my table and went downstairs to see someone at the reception and when I came back the copies were gone.

All sounds a bit strange. Pilfering of items I can understand, but documents and files is something different - is it commercial espionage ?

Put a mouse trap in your drawer, and check all your colleague's hand the next day and see whoever get the mark. :-P

Kidding aside, you can have your drawer locked, or ask your boss to give you a safety box for such important documents or save a soft copy of it in a USB, carry it with you and just print it whenever you need to. If it is an important document, it shouldn't just be lying around in your drawer.

Really, I am surprised how much paper work is going on around the office, with the technology today Qatar has chosen to stay 20 years behind in terms of documentation. Can't we have a paper less environment in the office! And I am amaze on how many signatories a document must have before it can be processed! Ok, I sound like I am ranting already,,, lol well, I am just sayin.....

A few ideas for you:

1) Explosives--booby-trap your drawer to explode if opened by anyone but you.

2) Poisonous snake in drawer--place a poisonous snake in the drawer, it will then bite whoever opens it.

3) Private security--Have you considered hiring a guard (Former SAS are the best) to protect the drawer while you're not there?

4) Take the drawer with you whenever you're not present--might be cumbersome, but will stop the theft.

5) Cut off hands of everybody in the office, one by one. When the theft stops, you've found your culprit.

6) Ask people in your office to clean your drawer while you're out--nobody will go near it.

7) Lock the drawer

I can come up with more creative ideas if needed, but these should keep your office mates busy for a few days....

(The preceeding was meant as humour, and I take no responsibility whatsoever if you should choose to implement any of the above suggestions, however I do retain movie and publishing rights in such an event)
