Good afternoon everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, i should be moving to Doha in the next couple of weeks and wanted to say 'Hi' to everyone and congratulate this site on being such an amazing source of info.

If there are any Colombians in Doha please get in touch. i hope im not the only one.

just to give you guys a quick intro, im 30, Single, no kids, straight and hope to stay in Doha, or middle east region for the next few years. i believe it will be a great experience for my CV considering im a mechanical engineer from Medellin, Colombia.
Been living the past 7 years in the USA (San Diego, Ca and currently Miami, FL) so this next step in my life should be pretty interesting.

What areas would you guys recommend for finding a place to rent, it doesnt have to be too flashy, but i dont want to live in the dumps either. any advice is welcome.

Thanks

/welcome esteban.

.

this rent for filipino ad are mostly room sharing in one flat,

Landlord don't want his tenants to share in one flat with

different nationalities.

not because of race, but to lessen culture clash....

Considering the traffic situation, its always better to look for house near your office. Where is your office located? ....we can suggest areas near to that.

A Jeep Wrangler would be just perfect! Oh, gosh, Doha is such a big city and has so many areas and such bad traffic - well, I'd say, go for the house/apartment you like rather than the area as long as it's reasonably close to your job. You will probably need a realtor. See if your employer has any suggestions or a bulletin board with cars for sale, apartment rentals, etc. And be prepared to be shocked at the rental prices. (And the quality of the construction.)

i never expected SOO much positive response, thanks to all, i like the vibe everyone is putting out, this will be an interesting adventure, i already asked for the house and they said allowance, so any good areas u guys recommend ??, regarding a car, i would prefer used nothing flashy, i grew up in Colombia, so as long as it has AC im happy. a old Jeep Wrangler should do. When i settle in i would love to meet you guys and throw a party, thanks for the warm welcome

Ahlan wa sahla, ya Esteban (welcome!) After living in San Diego and Miami you may find Qatar a not-very-pretty place to live but I'm sure you will find adventure and fulfillment.

welcome to QL esteban ...

a bit of advice, if you never been or live in the middle east before, take this as an adventure. Dont put your hope too high, never compare this place to your previous post. You should be fine :D

area for rent ... i would suggest you ask your employer to sort that out for you. Try to ask them to give you the house not allowance. That will save you alot of hassle.
