Did you ask him if they had a similar product but a different name. Whenever I need something that is not available my pharmasist looks it up in the book and then gives me a compatible medication. Yes not everything is available here. It could be because they don't import that specific brand/item or because they have run out. A good pharmacy to go to is Bader Chemists. Also they will give you mileage points. I also recommend you build up a relationship with your chemist so they know what products/medication you need and they will make sure they have it in stock.
