Taking my Dubai registered car to Doha
Hi everyone!
I've been living & working in Dubai for the last couple of years & have been offered a position in Doha & after an initial inspection visit I'm more than happy to move.
I have a private car that I'm considering taking with me, it's not a run of the mill car (no offence meant to anyone), in fact quite a specialised car so I don't want to sell it at this time.
I will be making regular flights back to Dubai, like a couple of times a month.
I've been advised by a number of people that I can either just drive it to Doha on Dubai plates (i.e. keep it Dubai registered)& as long as the insurance is modified that will be ok.
The alternative was to get it transported by either a land or sea shipper, still on Dubai plates.
The car is a 1999 model.
I've been told its ok to use a Dubai registered/plated car in Doha, so long as insurance is upgraded.
My company has offered to move it for me, but have asked for an indication of costs.
Can anybody give me any advice on these points.
Many thanks in advance.
If you will be frequently visiting Dubai then it is a good idea to keep the car registered in Dubai.
Well, reasons what I understands could be:
1) If you have any traffic fine in Doha as per new system introduced you cannot leave Doha unless fine is paid.
2) Other then Dubai you have to pay for temp. Insurance for Saudi and Doha which you cost you too much every time you travel.
3) Incase you are stuck in Doha for some reason and your Dubai number plate is due for renewal could cause travel inconvenience etc...

As I said, I'll keep my Dubai reg'd car in Dubai for use when I'm over there, I have a rental car here & will get a new car in Qatar before too long.
Out of interest, what were the reasons you refer?

are settling down in Doha for good. It is not adviseable to drive a UAE number car for long term for so many reasons.

I completely forgot about this post of mine as in the end I decided that as I'm going back & forth to Dubai once or twice a month it made sense to keep it there & use my rental car here.
Was good to drive it again this weekend in Dubai & made it feel all the more special!!
At some point in the future I may well do the drive from Dubai, just for the hell of it!
Thanks again for the advice.

I was under the impression that cars over five years old could not be brought into the country..
Hi Torque,
Will you be still on the UAE visa or you will get the Qatar Resident Permit once you move in??
If U will be on Qatar visa and you get your car with Dubai nr. plate, you can drive the car thru Saudi but,
1. I doubt if the UAE insuarance will be valid. You need to buy a Saudi Transit insuarance + Qatar Insuarance, both will be temporary and you need to keep renewing them, as your car is UAE registered. After Dubai registration expires it will be a waste as it cannot be then transferred to Qatar registration and also it cannot be renewed at UAE as your UAE visa would have been cancelled when you move on to Qatar visa.
2. If you want to get it transferred to Qatar registration, then you need to get an export nr. plate from Dubai police+the transit insuarances.
I learn that any vehical older than 5 years cannot be imported into Qatar. Even if you manage to get it to Doha, it will be subject to passing the technical inspection at the traffic dept.
I have a 2002 model car in Duabi & I am struggling to get it to Doha, since last 7 months!!
If you discover any news that might help me too, then please post me your findings and I will too.
Wish you all the success in your venture.
ALL THE BEST!

Thanks for the feedback! 7 hours, how many km's is it by road then?
Could I get it road-transported to Doha on the Dubai plates, rather than make the drive myself?
Although the car is a long distance high speed cruiser in reality, that V12 would love it!
keep it on the dubai plate numbers and u can go and come to Dubai using ur car, i think that would be easier, it is a 7 hours drive btw !
