custom duty on Gold ornaments for NRI going on vaccations
By friendtoall •
I have heard that new custom rule warrants carriers of gold more than worh 20000 has to pay duty, Dow much is the duty? and is it exempted if purchased before the new law is imposed? Any one having similar experience at the Kolkata airport recently?
I had to face issues at the bangalore international airport, not for the newly purchased gold but for the old ones which i was wearing.
The customs held me and wanted me to pay a duty of 16K for the 6 gold bangles which I was wearing, I was informed that one should declare the gold being worn or carried at the time of leaving India, if this is not followed, be it whatever new or old we will be held to pay the customs.
Thankfully I could convince the asst commisoner of customs that these were my wedding bangles and i had not bought them from qatar.[ Showed him the pic]. The explained me the rules and left me.
Please be careful while carrying or wearing gold.

"An Indian passenger who has been residing abroad for over one year is allowed to bring jewellery, free of duty in his bonafide baggage upto an aggregate value of Rs. 10,000/- (in the case of a male passenger) or Rs.20,000/- (in the case of a lady passenger."
For your kind information, custon duty / rules remain same on every airport of India.
