The, uhh, Science and Technology Park

You think there's gonna be local 'science and technology' functions in this building or is it just a plain big 'park' for tourists to see?

what gypsy said ^^. There are all kinds of companies in the Park.

I know a lot of programming and now large data crunching is being sent to India to do, and some companies are getting problems, but wether this was because of bad project briefing or the contractor or both its not clear.

They aren't going to be using cheap Indian Labour, there going to be hiring expensive Indian scientists, technology researchers, etc. QSTP is basically a giant research and development facility.

...with cheaper labour workforce. LOL

...and unauthorized products from several Middle Eastern countries. LOL

(Imagine you have a Siemens mobile but it's actually made in Lebanon)

By cheap I dont mean sub-standard. A lot of research is donkey work and is more about finding out what doesnt work. Now if you can get that done cheaply (and I dont mean by donkeys) then that helps the research because eveything even research has a budget. With regards doing the research in India, Im not entirely convinced the institutes there have the integrity to provide factual results cf genesis comments above.

No its not Epcot lol.Its a science park, like another education city.

The park is quite genuine and there is a good push to place local qatari students etc, within the companies that will be based there.

Seriously speaking! Have any of you really visited International companies offices & factories in India? And I’m talking big Names (Siemens, ABB,ETC). The quality is null. The move happened in 2000, now international companies are limiting their activities there and deploy it to elsewhere(Turkey, Brazil, Korea & eastern Europe). although the manufacturing duration is very less & they benefit from cheap labor, end user satisfaction unguaranteed, not to mention the serious defects found in erection stage

It doesn't look like an 'office space' to me. It looks like a mall without the necessities. So I'm expecting a branch of Starbucks or Costa Coffee in there with all the plenty of seat furnitures inside.

And I'm also expecting 'family day' issues in the near future once this building is totally, err, 'functional'.

And they got a huge parking space underneath to fill up the 'lack' of parking space for plenty of vehicles in Doha.

... but if they are going to use "cheap Indian labour" why not use them in India?

I dont see what wrong with Western firms using cheap indian labour. I mean these firms provide an opportunity. These firms are pushing the technology boundary like the Pharoes of old.

Utter waste of time and money but no doubt the consultants and construction firms made a pretty penny.

park for tourists?? it is a huge creature for the newest technology development.. "QSTP is a home for technology-based companies from around the world, and an incubator of start-up enterprises"... all Western technology-based Companies are having their offices there… such as Microsoft (still due to move in there), Cisco, etc. Vodafone’s head office will be there as well…

..it is so impressive inside.. as if you are in 22nd century!.. but SECURITY.. OMG!

The official launching took place about a month ago… it was impressive event!

And it's not The Uhh.. it is QSTP...
