Zikreet....... The Arizona of Qatar

KHATTAK
By KHATTAK

Well, it was quite dusty last friday but even that couldn't stop us of going to Zikreet...One of my Dream place to visit.
Called my Cousin & another fellow Qler "DotCom" to accompany and both of them were like... "Nike it". :-)
The weather was not ideal for Photography but just can't stop myself of sharing these with you. Pardon me for the quality though :-)

We lost our way right in the middle of NoWhere :P Thanks to "Khanan" for providing us the exact Coordinates on Phone.....Thanks to a Western Couple in PathFinder as well who came from nowhere to the rescue, and guided us towards the Film City.

Let me repost my earlier comment...

Once you join Dukhan/Sahahniya Highway.....the Exit to Zikreet old village would come at around 80Kms from Doha. Take enough food & drinks/water with you before going into the desert area. You can find some shops just before the Flyover/Exit on the left side.

Its mostly a rocky area having sand in patches.....so even a Saloon Car can make it, but an SUV (4X4) would be ideal.

Right Turn at the Flyover from Dukhan Highway to Zikreet:

25 26' 18"N

50 51' 54"E

Film City:

25 34' 41"N

50 50' 46"E

Once again, I must warn everyone: Sharks and Wolves.

It's dangerous territory. Under the milky surface of that water are man eating preditors, unrecognised as yet by scientists but thought to be akin to the Loch Ness Monster after a 6 month detox, starved of p*rk, human flesh, or the whiff of new blood. ((Or Quorn sausages and Heinz spaghetti.. hem- anyway..))

..Not only that, several stray- and long since astranged female Dukhanites have been said to have been spotted roaming in the wilderness of those hazy dunes singing a siren lament which is fabled to lure unsuspecting Dohaite males to their doom.

And don't even get me started on the wolves.

Not a good idea. Zikreet is a Menace.

one to remember ... kind of cold in the morning and everyone was afraid that it would rain. We all were early on QL, before leaving to the meeting point and guess what? It starts raining, Drude, are we still going or shall we call the day off? Nahhhh we will just go even if storms will hit the roads not rain only.

Nice and beautiful beach it was, we did the Monkey thingy after we played some sort of weird Volleyball ... Some run to the cars when it starts to rain again there, it was so cold but staying close to friends and the fire make it all good ...

Miss those days ...

painther, yeah it was really tempting to me as well when I was navigating through Google Earth and noticed this area :-)

Film City is in a very deserted area...encountered only two Sudani Guys who were probably there to look after the place. I guess, not too many people know about the place, probably that's why didnt see much tourists there.

Though there were a few groups of Westerners along the sea.....camping & kite surfing but through the middle, you would hardly see anyone for hours :D
