I think you need to know that...

- If your BASIC salary is not QR7000/- you cannot bring your family to Doha.
- Rents are over the roof so get your company to throw in an accomodation in the contract.
- Public transportation is rare and miserable so be prepared to get your driving licence as soon as you set foot in Qatar. (also be prepared to get stuck in traffic jams which aren't as bad as Dubai)
- Almost everything is more expensive than your home country (because almost nothing is produced in Qatar - everything we get here is imported)
- Speak only when spoken to - to the locals (not applicable with your collegues)
- Be prepared to spend a lot of time home as there aren't many activities to get involved in.
- Though qatar is a penensula, you would need to drive atleast 2 hours to the nearest beach which will be crowded on weekends during the summers and deserted during Winters.
- The only adventure sport in Qatar are the dune drives.
- If you are single you aren't allowed in Malls and other public places on weekends (very "human rights" friendly)

Generally it is a very laid back place which has been infected by the "progress" bug for the last 5-6 years. Thank God for the recession that things have slowed down.
