I guess that there are 2 reasons. First, Doha International Airport is mainly a place that people stop en route to other places and I suppose that they have to make some compromise in order to be a viable business. Secondly, a vast portion of society here are expatriates from other cultures. Currently Qatar is growing at such a rate that they need to make people want to come, they need that manpower. Rather than view it as double standards, I look at it from a more positive point, what a tolerant and sociable society to allow people to express themselves in their own way. I don't really agree, however, with breaking the law of a country who makes these compromises. The pork issue is difficult, I know people do it and thats up to them, I wouldn't because I personally would feel that it was a bit ungrateful. Just my opinion. Not judging anyone who has done it.
