We manage on one salary instead of two here, no tax means you are about 40 per cent better off. People who live here often forget how cheap the cost of living is here (except rent). I have just returned from a month in England so appreciate the fact that a good meal out is about 10 pounds and petrol is 10p a litre! The only thing that is pricey is alcohol and, actually, it is about the same as the UK. We have a brand new car that cost 10,000 pounds here, in England it would have been 27,000 pounds. Qatar Airways seem to adapt the cost of London/Heathrow so it always works out at 500 pounds except at Eid.Hope this helps, also hope that I am not becoming one of those tedious, boring and mean expats who just goes on about money all the time. Doha is a good place to live, there are all the western facilities and a bit of culture too. People are generally very respectful and helpful (except when driving). Good luck. JJ
