It's not eBay that should be trusted or not trusted. eBay is only the marketplace. You need to trust the seller of the goods. Look at his feedback rating. If he has thousands of feedbacks and a very high positive percentage (e.g. 99.5%) then he can be trusted.

If a seller has less than 500 feedbacks or has a low positive percentage, then rather look for another seller.

EBay does have a buyer protection policy so you have some reassurance but don't rely on it if you haven't done your homework.
