LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display (Standard LCD TV's us tubes for lighting meaning you cannot get a large range of dark to light across the screen e.g. if one side of the screen is supposed to show as black however the other half of the screen is daylight the black will show as a grey as there is light behind the picture), LED stands for Light emmitting Diode (this is the new way of lighting screens, instead of standard tubes the screen will be lit up by thousands of small bulbs known as LED's, as there are more bulbs it is possible for the screen to be lit in certain places whilst black areas receive no light, thus producing a much higher contrast and in turn detail will be a lot more noticable in very dark and very light scenes that appear on the tv
