i went to dubai sept 25 2005(for vacation after 2 years of work in saudi). for doctors(thats my profession), engineers and nurses...you dont need to get your visa here (uae embassy in doha). the 30 day tourist visa will be issued to you at the uae airport(for approx. 110 dirhams). just buy a roundtrip ticket. i also recommend that you enter uae via dubai not abudhabi. the computer system in abudhabi is not that as "advanced" as in dubai such that waiting time is relatively faster in dubai.
when i was working in oman, i frequented dubai by taxi. just be sure your residence permit is updated. i got my visa stamped right at the boarder for 100 dirhams(30 day visa).
entering the uae for doctors and engineers(for nurses,im not quite sure these days) is quite easy. for office workers...aint just too sure. for you just to be sure, visit kanoo travels(that was my travel agent when i first went to dudai in 2005),i saw one near the bus terminal in al fardan. good luck to you.
