I am awaiting the onslaught of criticism, but figured I'd post this anyway...

Following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the 1949 Armistice Agreements between Israel and neighboring Arab states eliminated Palestine as a distinct territory. With the establishment of Israel, the remaining lands were divided amongst Egypt, Syria and Jordan. The Arab governments at this point refused to set up a State of Palestine.

Now, I don't pretend to know the history of the region or the conflict intimately, but I found these items interesting. But I expect many people will present opposing views as soon as I post this...

And I wonder: if Israel eventually returns some lands to the Palestinians, will Egypt, Syria, and Jordan do the same with the land THEY reappropriated? It would be interesting to see...
