Divorce is definately good.
She stayed with him for 3 years - separated - in different bedrooms because of her fear for the children. She also had no income of her own. This is no different than in any other part of the world where women stay with the man that beats her because she can't go anywhere else.
Step back 3 years ago... divorce the s.o.b. since she didn't consider potential consequences later on well enough to have prepared (even at the time of marriage), find a job or simply remove the children to the UK.
My bet is that there's a strong possiblity the children didn't have UK passports.. but if they did, sure enough did they get Egyptian passports... she could have simply taken them and fought the battle from the u.k. Much easier to do.
And, as for the assumption on the Egyptians (Dora, I think?)... please, lets not go there.
